Effective battlemage

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 12:16 am

I am playing as a Dunmer conjurer/battlemage, so far I'm level 10 and have been using summon Dremora, a fire spell, touch frost spell, and blade.

I am also using Francescos leveled enemies.

But when I am in a cave, or a fortress, or anywhere, really, everything is really hard. I cant take on marauders, i slash them about 60 times with my blades katana and they finally die. My dremora doesn't even really hold up very well against enemies such as marauders.

So my question is, how can I play this way effectively? I don't want to turn the difficulty down. I just want to at least be able to handle a marauder by myself without running away all the time.

You might try using a Headless Zombie instead of the Dremora; they're a lot tougher. When you get conjuration to 75, get Summon Clannfear, which is probably the best all-around summon. They're aggressive, fast, and they're low enough that you can shoot targeted spells over them, staying safely behind them.

The other thing, when using a summon, is to hold back from combat until the summon engages the enemy. You want them to focus on the summon, not on you. You can always cast the summon again if it dies.

I have found that a very effective tactic with a summon is to do as Glargg said, and stand back while your summon goes into melee with your opponent. Then switch to a touch destruction spell, and go around beside or behind your enemy, and start blasting with that. They will usually ignore you and concentrate on your summoning, and you can really dish out the lovin' with those touch spells. The main thing to remember is to always use summonings that are melee only. Critters like Scamps and Flame Atronachs like to hang back and used ranged attacks, which does not give you a meat shield to hide behind. Zombies, skeletons, and clannfear only have melee attacks, so they go straight at the enemy like a missile (or in the case of a zombie, like a snail... ;)).

Zombies are the best. They're incredibly tough and not too bad at damaging either. My favorite summon, probably.
