Combat Moves and attacks!

Post » Mon Nov 16, 2009 5:31 pm

I would like to see in the furture of elder scrolls

To be able to do combat maneuvers like for example?

Sheild bash if you get the right training maybe? Yes i know you can in oblivion but maybe more lets say (funner or more effective..?)

Maybe there will be the spear in the game where you can raise your sheild up and jab with the spear (the spartan way)

Or duel weilding in the future that would be great :0

do you think ideas like this would be great instead of stuff like... swing your sword a little more more powerfull like in oblivion ?

and what your ideas of combat maneuvers :) Magic also

I finally started to play New Vegas, and the first time a Raider attacked me with a crazy ninja knife move, I just about pooped em', I think the possibilities for all sorts of fancy knifery and swordplay could be opened up in awesome ways.

That sounds fine, but honestly I could take it or leave it. Most of my characters are Spellsword types that favor magic over combat, so I would really rather see a better magic system.

That said, I would like to see shield bash, kicking (better hand-to-hand generally, really) and reasonable two-weapon fighting. Using two big swords is pretty unrealistic, but (especially for Skyrim) playing a barbarian who fights with a longsword and a hand axe (Tomahawk/hatchet, whatever) sounds really cool.

The combat and magic system need to be revamped, and certian moves such as a shield bash would certianly breath new life into the combat system.

There were skill perks gained at certian skill levels, why can't moves like this be those perks? Those effects added to already existing power attacks were pretty boring IMO.

As boring as I thought The Dark Messiah of Might and Magic was, the combat was so much more fun than Oblivion's...

I think combat maneuvers turn the game into more of a video game as opposed to a cRPG. Shoot, push forward with a side move of the mouse and a click at the right time? Way too complicated...I ain't no helicopter pilot!

It's dual wielding not duel wielding. It has nothing to do with duels. And the new engine would have to be very different for that to be fun. The only games that pulled off dual wielding are Bioware's and those are completely different games.

Hope they can make the combat feel more like Dark Messiah of Might and Magic in first person mode. That game had some epic attacks and animations, it all just flowed so nicely.

Yes you can. I play on 360, and I can auto shield-bash once I become an expert in blocking.

Anyway, I want more emphasis on sword techniques. You shouldn't baseball-bat an Akiviri Katana the way you would a mace; your character should develop a stance, and proper striking form as your blade skill increases and you get training in different styles. Disarming opponents should be almost like a combo-move. (keep in mind that I'm thinking in terms of console-gamepads) Imagine that you block your enemy's hit at just the right moment, and then strike a spit-second later while turning your right thumbstick in a circle for a successful disarm; Moving forward in a quick burst, and holding the trigger down results in a thrust that will pierce their armor, but leaves you open if you don't have a shield; if you block and hold the left trigger, crouch, and then hold the right trigger, you can duck down and stab your enemy in the gut. It's things like this, if not exactly like this, that I think would make for a much more player-skill based, and a much more involved combat-system. Character skill level should only increase strike-damage, footwork (you should get harder to disarm and knock-down as your skill increases), and the number of aforementioned combos the player can use (your character could learn more as he raises in skill, and they could be recorded in the journal).

I agree with the stance and how every sword mace ex... should be used diffrent foot work with skill sounds good too :)

People need to understand that dual weilding isnt someone with two long swords, at best it would be a short sword and a dagger, probably two daggers.

Shield bash in oblivion was a passive skill, you could not choose to do it. I would also like to see more thrusting and slicing attacks for blades and more overpowering attacks with hammers that possibly break shields/cripple opponents through sheer force.
