i just downloaded fallout 3 from steam a couple of days ago and its not letting m play it, every time i start up a new game it say "Fallout 3 has just stopped working." and it is just getting me angrier every time i have downloaded a supposedly missing dll file,didn't work i have changed the script bUseThreadedAI=0 to bUseThreadedAI=1 i have email'd bethesda and im not getting any response. if anything i think its just my video card is outdated its a intel® HD Graphics family im a new pc gamer (im a computer noob) so none of all the complicated stuff. i play an a craptop and might get a custom desktop.

The system requirements are well publicized, and the shortcomings of anything Intel does for video are equally well known. Just because Intel could bribe enough Federal Regulators to get by with blatantly ignoring the trade restrictions doesn't mean that 100% of the public is required to remain ignorant about far better options that are available at far lower costs.

The AMD Llano series beat Intel's poor graphics into the ground for smaller, lower budget laptops last year, and the year before, and this year there will be a higher rated graphics component offered in the new series, "Trinity", being released next month for higher quality laptops and for desktops.

Its kinda funny (but I guess not really) These expensive laptops running Win7 cant run this game.
But you could run down to your local used comp shop and buy an XP system for around $150 that'll run it decent.

Okies lets start with the basics.
If you havent tried installing outside of program files and or (X86) programfiles ( win7 64 bit) ... Do that!

You select custom instead of default at the installer.
Unless you have a steam install , then youll want to move your steam app outside of its default location.

The next thing youll want to try after this install is to limit your CPU to 1-4 cores , this is done by editing the ini file found with your saves.
This is the location>>> Mydocuments\Mygames\Fallout 3\FALLOUT.INI

Open this document up and find the line that says "bUseThreadedAI=0" and change it to "bUseThreadedAI=1" Hit enter, and under it add this line "iNumHWThreads=2" Close and Save the document.
You can select 1-4 ... 2 is just the most common.

If you get no love from those 2 fixes , come on back and post a dxdiag.

Incase you dont know how , try accessories then comand promt , err how ever you want to bring it up.

So @ your command prompt type "dxdiag" Youll then see a button to "Save all information" and select a save destination.
Open that document up and copy paste it here.

Exactly as per any and all owners of the terrible junk that Intel pretends is video, you can FORGET about proper operation of this game. If you had taken a second to shake off Intel's illegal brain-washing of the public, to avoid knee-jerk purchase choices, you could have spent less money on any number of better (for games) systems utilizing AMD's APUs that include DECENT graphics.

Contrary to your belief in some knew jerk reaction I chose this comp because I needed the i3 to run OSX Lion in a virtual machine and unfortunately that was impossible with AMD. Thanks for the snide comments though.

Pay attention. You are in a GAME company's gaming forums here. This is the Hardware and Software problems forum you are writing comments to. Therefore, what you bought a terrible Intel video system for is totally irrelevant within the context of playing games.

My response refers to GAME usefulness. Intel has acted in a NEGATIVE manner to PC gaming since the start of the PC industry in the 1970s. AMD, on the other hand, has ALWAYS had a professional approach to the needs of the gaming community.

It's really simple, but Intel lies, cheats, bribes, and bullies for all its worth to make things difficult for any kind of competition, in serious overstepping of the nation's many anti-monopolistic legal restraints, and gets by with slaps on the wrist for fines. I would prefer to give my business to what I consider an honest company rather than a den of thieves and charlatans. You made what I consider to be an ANTI-Game choice.

I believe the minimum should be 128 , or possibly 256.

Frankly im suprised you got it working at all. If you could give it more dedicated memory without dmging your board , you could try that. Check your manufacture site for if its possible or even recomended.

Beyond the first 2 fixes and dedicateing more memory , the tweak guide offers some alternatives (specifically in memory loading) that you adjust within you fallout.ini files. http://www.tweakguides.com/Fallout3_8.html read that section completely.
Or the whole tweak guide cant hurt.

Actually, I believe that the chipsets that Intel supplies with i3s and i5s tells lies to Windows and to DirectX.

I am fairly certain that only AMD ever equipped any chipset with the option to access some VRAM that is dedicated to only the integrated video solution. However, I never heard of any motherboard producer to have taken advantage of that option.

I just wanted to come back and thank you as I used many of those tweaks and so far (fingers crossed) I've been able to play just fine!
