Lanscape ghost trees?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 9:08 pm

I'm relatively new at modding, but on several occassions, I've editted landscape only to encounter ghost trees when I load my game. To try and clarify what I mean...... Let's say I've picked a location for a player home. The area has a few trees in it. I move the trees far enough away to create room for the building I'm placing there. When I load my game, the house is there, and the trees are moved to where I had placed them. The problem is, there remains a poor quality distorted verision of the trees in the original position which I moved them from. Usually this means its sticking through the roof of my house. They arent really there, as I am able to walk right through them, but the image of them remains. I'm guessing this is something to do with landscaping, but I have no clue how to fix it. For the record, I've jostled load orders and created patches and what not, in attempt to fix it. This has happened to me with every mod I've created, so I'm obviously doing something wrong. Suggestions?

Thanks

That's a version of the tree that's hardcoded into the landscape and it's what would be seen at very long distance. The thing you moved is the one you see when you're closer to it.

Relocating the shadow-trees is hard to do, I don't suggest trying. It might be best to build new buildings where you don't need to move the trees away. It's easier to move the big pieces of rock (even, disappear them by sinking them underground, out of sight) or add big pieces of rock than it is to mess with the objects that have shadow versions of themselves. LOD they call it.

Well, as much as that svcks.... thanks for the clear explanation. Makes sense. I guess I get more selective on locations then.
