Need some help with my New England wasteland

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 7:20 am

For the past month, I've been world building a post apocalyptic Massachusetts as fuel for my idea for a fan fic. I've got a general sense of the Big Bad and the various factions involved but there's two things that have been really bugging me.

1) What is the wildlife like in and around Massachusetts and what would be formidable if mutated.

2) With the Commonwealth eggheads bunking in MIT. One of the main themes I'm going for to differentiate this wasteland from the others is technology and it's relative ease to find. Autodocs can be found in multiple towns and villages and the residents are more likely to have cybernetic limbs and sub-dermal implants thanks to some donations from MIT itself, giving the setting a higher sci-fi setting. What I need are ideas for possible cybernetic parts for the residents of the New England wasteland and how it would benefit them both in combat and their day-to-day living. Don't just say "cyber arm", be creative and don't worry about how it works, that's my job.

Also one more thing, how would you feel about post-war cranial implants that amplify brain activity, giving the patient telekinesis. I'm on the fence about it and want to know if you guys would find it interesting to read about or if it's too mary sue in contrast to Fallout lore.

1) there bound to be some Bears so Yai guai for starters

2) night vison sight (perhaps toggle option) allow people to see in dark, has plenty of uses in combat (such as sneaking up on someone) to non combat roles such as repairing equipment in the dark to finding your way when lost.

EDIT: this could also be a piece of equipment oh and an Infrared verison aswell.

3) probably abit overpowered for players to have telekinesis and such but you could have some (nerutal) Npcs have it but not used in combar. There should also be a downside from it

1) moose, black bears (which can be yao guai), bobcats, beavers, dear, eastern coyote, rabbits, turkey, plenty of turtles (so maybe a mutated turtle could be Fallout's version of a mudcrab?) also salamander (perhaps an eastern version of a Gecko?)

2) I'm sure you could get a lot of ideas from the augmentations in Deus Ex: Human Revelation.

Also telekinesis is a little too much, IMO.

1) I declare that it has been thoroughly covered by the prior.

2) Not so much cyber arms, but improvisions for appendage revitalization, like for say a hand made from two pincers that can be stretched out (in a grappling hook fashion. Or have someone's arm be a literal configuration of different sized gears. Give people actual shoulder BLADES. Some type of implant that allows someone to turn their neck or torso virtually 360?

3) Telekinesis is a no-no, because its hard to write, and also give too much ease to deliver conflicts and conflict resolution within the story. Now, a kind of "spidey-sense" if you will can be written through, you can blame it on cerebral nanobytes, or something... like that.
