Frequent Game CrashesFreezes

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 10:45 pm

Ever since the newest patch I have experienced many location based game crashes and freezes.

My game will randomly crash anywhere in the whole New Vegas area(outside of Freeswide and Westside).

To be more specific there is a 100% crash(freeze) rate outside of Goodsprings, when you are by Jeans Sky Diving and follow the road to Primm.

Personally I don't care how many bugs Fallout New Vegas has, I normally deal with them or work around them, example: The perk quick draw or having the agility skill at 9 or 10 cause you to draw your pistol twice(very annoying) so I kept my agility at 7. As long as Obsidian can keep my game from crashing/freezing I am happy, my game was like that until the new patch.

I am also not sure what the difference between crashing and freezing are but my game freezes and then I need to turn my Xbox off then back on.

I am not sure how many people are experiencing this. My game has been installed to my Xbox hard drive the second I opened my fallout, along with many of my other games. I re-downloaded the patches and the DLCs and still my game freezes.

I am not sure if I should play it on disk or re-install it to my hard drive.

If anyone else has experienced these crashes/freezes or has a solution, please post.

Crashing will cause you to black screen usually as the computer for whatever reason has decided it cant handle something. A freeze is just that the screen freezes where your at and you can no longer interact with the system till it is reset.

Depending on cause of a crash it can harm OS and some hardware, but thats not a frequent occurence.

I myself have freezing problems even before the patches and DLC usually after playing for 3 or more hours. My conclusion is my Xbox is overheating as once its shut down a while it runs fine.

I came to this conclusion due to the fact my PC did same thing till I installed a fan.

Mind you overheating is not by a longshot the only possiblilty but at least in my case it seems to be

Hope thats helpful in some way

I respectfully disagree. If this game is crashing due to overheating, it stands to reason that your XBOX will overheat whilst playing other games as well. If you play all your other games, yet do not have any overheating issues, which is the case with my own XBOX, then it is not an overheating issue. It is quite obvious these lock-ups are software based. This can be proven by the fact that before the most recent patch was released, most users did not have nearly as many lock-ups, if any. I am sure they are aware of this matter and are looking into it.

In the topic of Obsidian do you even care, a lot of us were talking about constant hard crashes and other bugs making the game at times unplayable. Since the last patch in the Mojave I get hard crashes every time I play and am forced to restart my 360 manually. When I played Dead Money, I got a couple hard crashes at the worst times. When playing Honest Hearts I got one hard crash in Zion but luckily I saved a minute before it so wasn't too bad but still should not happen. Now, for some amazing reason I played through Old World Blues with zero hard crashes and no notable bugs; if Obsidian could have programmed the rest of the game like OWB it would be great. But the Mojave just gets worse with every patch, and I don't know if this is a bug or not but for some reason after OWB I went back to Lucky 38 to get 2 companions, and Cass started shooting at EDE, and EDE killed her so now I can never use Cass again. Not a big deal since I don't use her anyway but still it was messed up.

Speaking of hard crashes, soon after leaving OWB and getting my companions I started traveling and sure enough the game hard crashed out of nowhere when I was nearing Camp Bravo. I decided that after that I'm done with the game until they can fix it, if the trade credit wasn't just a a few dollars I would trade it back again but for now I'll just put it at the bottom of my game pile and pray for a patch that really fixes this game.

Krud, I just got this one for 39 bucks from the xbox download thing.

I was bored of being stuck with freezes in skyrim, so thought this might be something to do until that is fixed.

Is this just what Bethesda DOES in games on the 360???? What gives?

I've not had problems yet, but I'm only level 8 or something.

So far this game seems to save/load quite rapidly (mainly when I compare it with Skyrim... my gosh...) But some of the posts here
fill me with dread.

----------------

By the way, i've only had such crashing problems on my xbox with skyrim. So I don't think its an "overheat" issue in these games
(or if it is, its due to how poorly Bethesda has ported them for this console.)

Other games I can play pretty much for days, maybe the system locks up once in a blue moon
but it seems more like the system doing it rather than a particular game. That is, until I was playing skyrim.

When it comes to some issues it can depend on either the disc or the console, it's most likely though the disc being the problem. If you're not experiencing problems just now you should be fine. If I had read this board before buying the game I'd be put off too but in reality the games sound and only a small minority have these issues, I think it depends on your region and the standard of the game they have. Game crashes can be really random though and I've had them every now and again but not for the past few months.
