This would've been cool in 1960's. But today, I don't really see use for fallout shelters. The worst that can happen now is a nuclear terrorist attack. An all-out nuclear war, or alien/zombie invasion is extremely unlikely.
Why do people keep saying that? Were nuclear weapons uninvented? Did the nuclear club bury their warheads and call it a day?
We didn't invent a kinder human, one that isn't susceptible to ambition or resource needs. We didn't merge all nations into a one-mind hive. Even though the names may have changed, every reason for conflict is still there, as is the technology. I'm not saying we should all freak out and dig holes. (I haven't.) However, let's stop pretending that the world is a magically safer place.
