Enemies you hate the most in Daggerfall

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 8:33 pm

A remake of a very old thread here:

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/915945-enemies-you-hate-the-most-in-daggerfall/

After beating the game my most hated enemy was the damn Vampire Ancients. :swear: The first time I heard it I thought "Wait a minute, isn't that the sound of a Vampire from Arena?" I found him, and boy did I regret not saving since the beginning of the dungeon. :(

The Lich. Mostly early on, when I'm nowhere near prepared for them and they can just blow me apart without a thought... on the other hand though, it does change up gameplay into an amusing game of "Kill the Lich without being in the same room!"

Liches. The things are so powerful and scary they literally make me jump to hit ESC so I can save my game. Every time.

Saw this thread and knew exactly what my reply was going to be... and then I saw the previous thread linked in the OP and saw that my response there (the first reply) was almost verbatim what I was going to say here. Huh. OK, fine so I hate spriggans. No reason, I just had a dungeon recently where they were numerous and made life difficult. There, now I'm slightly less of a broken record :)

I hate the ghouls and ghosts of Daggerfall. They are really annoying when you arrive at the town at night and your low lvl character tries to make it to the nearest inn and they keep attacking you, while king Lysandus is constantly shouting "VEENGEEAAANCEEEEE"!!! After playing DF for many hours it still creeps the **** out of me.

Giant spiders, because they would ALWAYS either force me to be an altmer instead of khajiit, or force me to dump points into immunity to paralysis.

Ghosts and Wraiths. Why do they like towns so much? If they are so tired of being all not in a true afterlife, why don't they make their own town and call it Ghost City or Ghost Town? Maybe people wouldn't stab their ectoplasmic bodies on sight, then. The orcs aren't going into towns at random, making sounds that are so loud they give me ear pain, and making the now gone Wilderness PVP area of Runescape look safe for low levels, so I say these undead souls make a town and sell things to adventurers instead of killing.

Would the ghosts have to kill eachother for a few months to get their buildings made, though...?

I don't mind ghosts, spiders, or scorpions any more because I have an enchanted vest that casts Free Action when I use it. :-)

It changes as I go through the game. Early on, it's any creature that requires the next level of weapon I haven't got yet!

Daggerfall does seem to be good at spawning a lot of whatever monster you're vulnerable to.

Agree. Spiders are quite the pain.

Everybody here has already covered what enemies I hate the most, and for the same reasons. The Skeletal Warriors are freakin' loud. Same with the ghosts and wraiths hunting Daggerfall. Later on, during my first playthrough, were-creatures became a nuisance, as well as spiders. I don't like being infected, which can happen sooner than later in this title, due to the sheer number of them you can find in any given dungeon, and paralysis is annoying for obvious reasons. Too bad I don't know how to acquire any potions in this game. Join the Mages Guild? Alchemy? Can I not simply barter? I'll do some research, I guess.
Vampires for the same reasons as were-creatures. Liches... Kill them quick or else.

Vampires and werewolves. Though it is uncommon for you to be infected I am constantly saving in a dungeon populated with either creature as I really fear not noticing I have the disease. Then changing and losing all the faction I have worked for. I do not hate the other more powerful enemies. Besides one particular daedra lord who decided to visit my dungeon of choice at Lvl 6.

I personally have always hated zombies. They make one of the most enervating sounds in the game, and can hit non-warrior characters fairly hard as well.

I still remember my first meeting with a zombie: "What's that sound?" (turns corner) "What the hell is that!" (death followed by reload). Good times.

I like the liches in low levelled dungeons, gives you a scope of how pitiful a fighter you really are in the grander scheme of things. :P

Scorpions were a menace for my first few characters, until I just went Altmer. Now I can combat paralysis anyway, but when first playing the game it made me nerd rage a lot.

I hadn't played a High Elf, but when I added Orcs, I stole their slot (and stats) and found that immunity was just what I'd been missing with my Bretons, Nords, and Dark Elf characters.

I still find I'm fighting Imps with an iron sword, or werewolves with a steel one, or nymphs with a silver one, or harpies with an elven one, or.... I think if I find a Daedric sword, the dungeons will be empty.
