FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS FOR APPLE COMPUTERS!

Post » Thu Nov 19, 2009 2:16 pm

Macs are, aptly, expensive. There is, in fact, R-Click in OS X. On the whole, OS X is by no means broken as you've described it, but was probably just unfamiliar to you when you used it. People are generally creatures of habit and might think anything they are familiar with from using Windows can be extrapolated and will be applicable on another OS which simply isn't the case, but that by no means makes an OS inoperable. As for gaming on a Mac, that all depends upon the hardware. Fallout 3 and Oblivion both perform exceedingly well with everything maxed out (+ HiRes texture replacers) on a MacBook Pro, so the statement, "Gaming, and graphics in general, svck on Macs" holds no water unless you're referring to a dinosaur of a Mac... As for customization, I've a Windows install which is every bit as customizable as any other and, from all I've seen, OS X is every bit as malleable as Windows, but is just ...different.

Yes there is right click but it doesn't do much. And I have never used a Mac, I just know all this stuff. But thanks for basically re-saying what I just said in your own words, I really appreciate it! Oh and about the MacBook Pro, it's $3,000. I seriously don't know anyone (except for Donald Trump but idk him) who would waste their money on that when you can get a deal much better than that for only about $1,000.

So...

MacBook Pro: $2,799

Specs:

17-inch: 2.3Ghz
2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1680 x 1050 pixels
2GB memory
160GB hard drive1
8x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 256MB SDRAM

Now you can buy a Dell laptop that's not even $1,000 that has better specs than that. Don't tell me that I'm lying because I just checked their site.

This is great! :)

I don't own a Mac.. I don't have anything against Macs, but honestly, I wouldn't pay that much for one either. As for"specs", well, there are specs and then there are specs. :)
OS X is an implementation of FreeBSD, but it is not linux-based (linux is a kernel, not an OS).

As for customization, give me a break. Any *nix is much more customizable - and I'm not just talking about the pretty GUI) and offers more features than Windows. I laugh every time I see those Windows 7 tv commercials touting the "new features" , which not only have been part of Beryl and Compiz in the *nix world for years, they are mroe efficient and easier to access.

Other than playing games, there's really nothing Windows does better than any *nix.
No charge for the OS
No virii.
You can get any application you need for free.

.. anyway, back to the regular scheduled FNV talk.

Apple makes graphics and rendering computers, not gaming computers. They probably couldn't handle the strain on their video cards and processors anyway.

It all depends on the hardware. I saw some $2,000 Mac that probably couldn't run the game on High or Ultra settings. It would be way cheaper to just buy a gaming PC.

Macs are ridiculously overpriced. Macs regularly ignore mainstream industry trends. Mac OS X is merely a locked down version of open-source Linux. There's not even right-click. The Dock, and general screen layout svck. “It just… doesn’t work.” (Macs crash, freeze, and have evil viruses too.) Software and hardware options for Mac are lame, or slim at best. Gaming, and graphics in general, svck on Macs. Macs are not flexible or customizable. And plenty more reasons...

Oh yeah, well that magical task bar that your precious PC just came up with? Guess what. That's been on my Mac for ages. Oh, and that right click? I forgot how impossible it was to hit a key while simultaneously clicking. I bet you have a lot of trouble capitalizing when you type too. You know, I think the only thing PCs have that Macs don't is a ton of viruses. That's about it. FYI, stuff is only worth what people are willing to pay for it, so that just goes to show you how many people prefer Macs over your precious POS PCs.

Jesus Christ guys, what's with the flame wars??? I prefer PC's over Macs, do you see me [censored]ing how PC's are better? No. My opinion, my decision.

This thread was about New Vegas for a Mac was it not? Enough of the fan-boys....

Apple used to make graphics and rendering computers. It's past. Apple was first to launch GUI OS commercially, it led to certain software makers to make some stuff first to mac. Due to certain better softwares available certain industries used macs as there were no equal or better alternatives available at that time. Namely photoshop, some other graphical design stuff and few 3d design apps. High end mac models were also decent at rendering, but always inferior when compared to Silicon Graphics workstations. Apple also used to use different processor archictectures, PowerPC chips and stuff, code on those mac originated softwares made those softwares run better on Mac. For past few years they have used basically standard PC equipment and Intels x86 bases chipsets, that turned situation around a lot, Mac has become massively overpriced PC-clone with brand that costs. When it comes to being more secure OS. MacOS is losing the only advantage it had, small number of users as Mac is becoming more and more popular. That means more users not knowing anything about computers and Mac viruses are inevitable part of future.

Quite honestly same applies to open source to an extent. Small user base isn't good enough market for scams. Open source also has one huge advantage, being open and peer reviewed worst exploitable security loopholes become apparent during development. Proprietary software doesn't have that and makers only try to keep their screw ups hidden. In the end Mac is even more closed system than windows running PC's.

"Their video cards" and "their processors" are the same as what any Windows computer would use. Macs are x86 as well.

... but anyway, maybe one day developers will release games that'll run native in *nix systems... I don't know what I'd do once games stops supporting Windows XP, though. I guess I'll stop playing games.

But it's just nonsense to release F3 all over again.
If I want to play Super Mario Bros. (stupid example, I know) I'll just buy a NES.

Flaming, Mac vs pc war, nothing is good about this thread. It has been confirmed that this is a Games for Windows release, and not a release for Mac.

With that, closed.
