Daggerfall and Arena were released for free 10 years after r

As I'm sure some of you know, Morrowind's 10 year anniversary is a mere 13 days away. Previous elder scrolls games have all been re-released for free on their 10 years, but with Morrowind still raking in some cash on Steam, what's the chance Morrowind will do the same? Is it even plausible? If yes, what's the chances the expansions will follow?

Thoughts?

I agree. Morrowind still has a $20 price tag on Steam, so that indicates to me that it's still selling.

Morrowind will be released for free the day our computers won't be able to play it.

No. Most of the content from Morrowind and the game is really to good to be released free. Daggerfall and Arena were release free because most of it was buggy. And it use a different program to run it. *DOS* *which is like old*

Morrowind runs on the Gamebryo Engine, the same engine that Oblivion, Fallout and Skyrim run on. So no there's no chance. Maybe a price cut. 2.99$?

A price cut of $2.99 or a release for $2.99? I've already paid for it twice ( Once on xbox, twice for Xbox GOTY...) And am not looking forward to paying again, but I think I could manage if it were only $3...

I'd have to agree with the majority and say very unlikely. It would be kinda cool to get some of my friends who never played it to try it. But me and those friends will be stupid busy when D3 comes out in 3 weeks anyway :-)

Both, Arena and Daggerfall, run fine on modern computers. You can download a preconfigured installer if you don't want to deal with DOSBox.

Morrowind is still popular and sells, though, so tough luck with it being free any time soon.

I hope they try to make some cash and release some kind of memorabilia for the game. Like, useless stuff. Like, a stone box edition. Or the regular game with a poster or something. I don't care. I'm a svcker for special stuff! Oblivion got that boring 5 year anniversary thing, so the Morrowind 10th equivalent of that.

It's highly unlikely that Bethesda will release any moddable game as a free download. Mods help keep games 'current.' Had it been released with an editor Daggerfall might not be a free download now.

More people need to know about this. I found it around a year ago, and it would get so many more people into the originals.

Anyway, I think it's a 50/50. I've been seeing less copies of Morrowind in stores, to the point where they appear to have phased out production completely, and it would get a lot of goodwill for Bethesda. But we can't underestimate the power of Steam - I'm willing to bet that they make a fair sum of money from its sales over there. But no matter what, I'm wearing my party hat on the 5th :)

None. The older games were developed on a now archaic, unsupported, platform. Plus, they've found a new market in steam and digital distribution.

Consider yourself lucky, usually it's the other way around

You pay more money for one download and no physical copy (including shipping).

It's a thing we could debate of: does the fact that a game (or a book) doesn't have physical copies makes them less valuable?

As for me, I bought Skyrim 38% less than its price on Steam. ;)

strange. logically, a physical copy should cost more, since they have to use materials to make it.
what's the difference between the 5th anniversary edition and normal Oblivion?

Very unlikely since Morrowind copies are still being bought on steam and sold in stores to this day.

  • With the abilities of the current consoles & the planned Next Generation of Consoles it would be fitting to take the Original line of Elder Scroll Games & bring them into the New Era; as Syndicate? has been remade from a 1990 Tactical Game overhead Game into a 3D Shooting & Technology Game,
  • Bethesda should make use of its IPs just as Stories are told from one Generation to the Next. These Stories should be retold to the new Generation of Gamers that have never experienced the earlier story line. And with each new passing of Legends hand down from one generation to the next, there is always some embellishment making room for the Stories to become Grander & Grander with each new passing. This I do believe should be applied to each of the earlier Elder Scrolls. Where they were unable to tell the stories in the fashion they wanted due to the limited technology, Bethesda now has the opportunity to Breathe new life back into the old legends’ of the Elder Scrolls in a way that both the new Generation & the Elder Generation can enjoy & perhaps see additional layers weaving their way through the tapestries of time by telling those additional Side Stories they were unable to bring to light due to the limitations of memory & graphics of the time!
  • I for one would happily pay to see these stories retold with nuances that were not in the Original Legends! Additionally, Bethesda's decision to remove various types of Armor & Weapons. Medium Armors such as Banded Armor, Ring-mail, Chain-mail, Laminate armors ; as well as & a whole host of other Historical Weapons including Pole arms, Staffs, Spears, Throwing Weapons "Knifes, Shuriken, Caltrops, Alchemical Grenades for smoke, fire, acid, poisons & choking agents",. Additionally, component based armors worn one arm may be heavily armored & the other lightly or not at all.
  • Other Skills that should be brought back would include Unarmored where the combatants trains to harden the body while dodging or parrying incoming attack & responded with Counter-Attacks from the (Hand to Hand or Martial Arts) where various Body Parts are used to Strike an Opponent, Braking Bones & Grappling until one yields or Dies..There could be different Perks that favor Grappling vice Strikes. Critical Grappling Perks could include Silent Takedowns that include Non-Lethal Blood Chokes in order to disable a Sentries, Limb manipulation & throws in order to disarm an opponent or lethal Chokes, and Limb manipulation & throws or in order to break limbs, spine or neck. Critical strikes to the Joints, Groin, Ribs, Chest, & head could disable or Kill an opponent.
  • Remember Variety is the Spice of Life & it can Breathe life back into the retelling of the old legends as well as make for spectacular battle scenes which will keep Gamers coming back for more!

There isn't a difference. It's just a re-packaged GOTY :P
