Thinking about Morrowind on Win 7

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 2:48 am

I've been looking into getting morrowind off steam, but I have a few minor questions

First, the Steam version doesn't seem to have the Construction kit, so does that mean no downloading mods? Is there a place to get that separately or am I gimped here? I'd like to try some of your player mods, but if it doesn't work w/o the CK, it may be better to get something off of a disk rather than Steam.

Are there any known issues on Windows 7? I know Windows games can get a bit weird on newer versions of Win on occasion, so I'm hoping that it's still somewhat supported on newer hardware.

You don't need the Construction Set to download mods. The CS is for making them. You can easily download whatever mods you want off sites like http://tes.nexusmods.com/ without having the Construction Set. You may even be able to find the CS to download somewhere, if you actually wanted to mess around with it. After a quick search, I've only been able to find the Oblivion version.

And I haven't had any problems playing Morrowind with Windows 7.

I'v been wondering how it would handle Win 7 too. I'm thinking I might get it, too, but I'm going to order the disc from Amazon.com. I really don't want to deal with Steam.

Will MW work on a Win 7 system from the old disks? Have MW and the 2 expansions. Any special precautions?

No problem with W7, whether you install the game from discs or through Steam, but, buying the game through Steam will allow you to have a more recent version of it (1.6.0.1820).

New players should not forget to check both the http://tes.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=19510 and the http://www.etherealsoftware.com.au/patch/. Not being myself sure if the Steam version had integrated them, I installed them and everything seems okay so far.

I got Morrowind via Steam yesterday. I'm playing it on Windows 7, on my Mac using the Parallels program. After adjusting the screen resolution to accommodate the game, Morrowind works fine. Now I just need to get a game controller. Using the keyboard is find simple FPS and RTS games, but I don't care to use it for a game like Morrowind. Besides, I'm already use to a controller since I've played Oblivion and Skyrim on my PS3.

I've gotten far into Morrowind as yet. I got killed by something that looks like a pterodactly. I expect to do better once I get a controller.

Don't worry abput the cliff racers, the myriad thousands will kill you even if you have a controller.

In all seriousness, I feel that it would actually be hampered by a controller.

The Morrowind Construction Set is not available on steam. I think more than a few of us would really appreciate it if Bethesda put it up there.
