Wanting to get back into modding...

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 11:39 am

Greetings all. I have been... out of the loop for a while, due to different personal issues, but now I really would really like to get back to working on modding, nothing in particular, just in general.

Now, I have relocated and for the next several months will only have access to my laptop, which I've only had for a few months.
My primary issue is this, what is the latest version of Blender that has .nif script support? I've been looking at the Blender site as well as NIF File Format Library, but I'm a tad confused as to which scripts got with which version. :hehe: Any and all help is appreciated.

My next issue will be to install MW on a Windows 7 laptop, but I've been reading up on common issues. Hopefully it won't be too much of an issue. :unsure2:

No latest, I think we're still stuck with 2.49b.

About installing Morrowind, either install it somewhere that's not Program Files (86) (or something in the line, don't have win7 on this pc atm) or install it there but turn off the administration thingy completely (in Control Panel -> user account(s) and somewhere there you should see a bar that you can drag up and down- turn that down, but I assume you know how to do this)- your choice.

And welcome back. :D

You can use the latest version for modelling, then import the finished model back into 2.49b, but Chaka is right.
Means you have to have two installations, but you get to play with cool new features like BMesh then.

I put Morrowind into E:\Games\Morrowind, but anywhere other than a Windows system folder, like (x86) or Documents, is fine.

I think the cause of a lot of problems for me and others has been the User Account Control ( UAC ) in windows 7 so i have disabled it , a lot of the reported problems are connected to the UAC also i was unable to install some of my favourite software due to incompatibilities with the UAC so no regrets at all , just wish i had discovered how to turn off the UAC a lot sooner.

Ah yes, this is what I meant. On my gf's laptop I have Morrowind installed normally in (x86) and it works perfectly fine with UAC turned off. :)

Lots of new horizons right now.

Considering how much landmass projects are in the making, this can't be more literal. :P

Thank you all, I'm not quite up and running yet, but getting closer. *sigh* I thought that having my commute time cut down by almost a third would give all sorts of extra time, but so far it isn't. Then there's a friend of mine that's been taking up quite a bit of my time lately (long story, not going to get into it).
Hopefully things will slow down in the next couple weeks and I can get to work. I've got a mental list of things I want to make, and it's been getting longer. :P

I've got a few of those that I'll get back to later on myself. :ninja:
