Where to get a good armor set

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 3:52 am

my question is pretty simple, i was wondering what's a good armor set to get besides then the one you get from completing knight of the nine quest line?
I have played the game a few different times but still consider myself new in the sence that i dont fully know where to aquire good stuff like armor and weapons. my char is a warr with block, blade, armorer, heavy armor and athletics being my major skill sets

Unfortunately, in Oblivion, all gear is rigidly tied to your level at all times. You will never find any gear that is not your level. It is Oblivion's biggest flaw, in my opinion. You can fix this with mods if you're on PC, but there's nothing much you can do about it if you play on a console.

You will encounter this leveled gear naturally as you play the game. You'll find gear on humanoid enemies like bandits after you defeat them.

The Crusader's Relics will level up with you as your character levels. Just put it back on the stand in the Priory Undercroft and it will update if you've reached another level tier. At high levels, it's actually one of the best default armour sets.

Self-enchanted stuff can be the most powerful, so grab yourself some Daedric armour (or perfect Madness armour if you have Shivering Isles) and add whatever enchantments you think are appropriate. With the right enchantments, you can make your character http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Best_High_Level_Items.

Are you playing on a PC? If so, there are literally hundreds of http://tes.nexusmods.com/downloads/cat.php?id=54 available. Most are of the skimpy bikini-chainmail variety but there are many realistic armours as well. And as a shameless self-plug, I'll be releasing a mod later this year that powers up the KOTN Crusader's Relics.

As already said armor is tied with your level. You'll just have to patiently wait to get the best gear. until then you can enchant your own armor (unless your wearing the kotn armor) to make you stronger, have higher resistances etc etc.

You can get a good complete set of unique Ebony Armor if you know where to go and can win a tough fight. If you get it before level fifteen it will have Orcish Armor stats. I cannot say much more in General Discussion.

You can get the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Umbra_(person) armor set, which is pretty nice...

I'll just remark that there are a handful of mods that can make your game run better than an unmodded game. Notably, the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, Oblivion Stutter Remover, Fast Exit 2, and perhaps Streamline if configured properly.

Heavy armor is tough. At best, I think there's the solution already mentioned in the previous posts  Next bet is you can pick up a full set of steel armor if you enter the Shivering Isles first thing and let the gatekeeper do his thing. The knight's armor is nice because it levels itself when you put it back on the stand. Of course you have to run the quest to get the set.

For light armor, iirc, there's a way to get a full set of chainmail pretty easily, and a nearly full set of elven armor not so easily, right from the beginning of the game. Other than that, it's just waiting to level up and get better loot.

Here are the three sites I get most of my mods from: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.List, http://tes.nexusmods.com/ and http://tesalliance.org/forums/. As an extra added bonus, TES Alliance boasts one of the very best Elder Scrolls forums on the internet (next to this one).
