I played the game(Oblivion GOYE) for months with no problem.I realized that Shivering Isles did not load so i loaded it.Everything was fine for a few weeks then i started to notice that while i was walking or running that the character turned erratically.Now it won't turn at all while it is moving.Is there a fix for this?Thanks

Do you happen to have a joystick plugged in, by any chance?

No, it's just a sony vaio with a core i5 on windows 7. I have never used a joystick or an external mouse.The mousepad turns the character fine until he starts moving.I played through morrowind(on an older laptop)and never had this issue.

How many hours on this character? Do you have any other animation weirdness, like doors opening slowly?

I am at 108:32.And no i do not have any other issues.

You could try deleting your oblivion.ini file. Once you start the game it creates the file with default values. I had a similar problem once - I couldn't turn my character, even though in the menus the mouse worked. Deleting oblivion.ini and oblivionprefs.ini solved it.

You may have to readjust your graphical settings after that

Thanks Acolyte,I may try that(always worried about losing everything).I did discover something that has made my problem a little less annoying.When i press W to walk or SHIFT W to run,i can tap the shift button again and the mouse pad starts to work.As long as i'm walking or running i can turn the character,but if i stop and start again i have to tap the shift key to sort of toggle the mousepad so i can turn.It's not the fluid process that i had before but at lease i can turn.Just as a thouhgt that just came to me,when riding a horse are you able to guide it with the mousepad?From the beginning of the game i have been holding down walk or run and guiding the horse with the A and D buttons.This may be the way it works,not sure.

Make a backup copy first.

Also, have you ruled out your keyboard and mouse as the issues? It sounds like something is interfering with the signals, to be honest.

The mousepad works flawlessly otherwise.The laptop is less than 6 months old .It worked great in the game until about a month ago.

The horse is supposed to work with the A and D buttons (the strafe controls.)

The one question I don't see asked or answered above: Does this same thing happen if you start a new character? If it doesn't, then you have a problem with the particular save file, not with the keyboard or game.
