Crash at Startup-"Oblivion has stopped working."

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 11:26 am

I just recently found my Oblivion disc that I used to play on my old tower at home. I now own a laptop, rather old, but still ok. I installed it, attempted to run it, and a small black box in the top left hand corner stayed there, and the "Oblivon has stopped working" bubble popped up. I can't find out the reason why it wouldn't work. Please explain why it wouldn't.

My comp. specs.:
Acer Aspire 5570Z
2 GBS(DDR2) of Memory
Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 graphics card

Why did you assume that your laptop was sufficient for this game?
"Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 graphics card"
That's why it won't work. You have an awful integrated video chipset.Even if it did run,you would have crap performance

THat's what I thought would be said. This computer is about 7 years old, and on it's death bed. The only reason it's got the 2GB of ram is because I spent 80 bucks to have it put in there not too long ago.

Do you have two monitors on your system ?

If so, completely disconnect your secondary monitor, reboot computer, make sure Windows is running in single-monitor mode only.

It solved problem for me. Methinks game gets confused if your main window monitor shows up as monitor 2 when in dual-monitor mode.

Hope this will help,

That isn't the answer for every problem, and multiple posting of the same thing is frowned upon.

Thank you, Glargg..... a quick anolysis of these four problems did reveal commonalities tho (ill lett you figure them out).....

Clearly their authors might have been tracking their own posts, and would not necessarily recieve electronic notification of someone elses post....

One thing that came across in another of these threads, however, is indeed how better-than-thou jerks will be frowned upon even more than peeps whoa re honestly trying to help.

Chill out, and try to take yourself less seriously...

Ciao, and thanks again to the only one guy who tried to help,

LOL, I'm one of the last people on this forum to take himself seriously.

I wasn't trying to criticize you; I was trying to give you a "heads up" about the way the forum is moderated.

For what it's worth, "Crash-to-desktop" on startup is one of the most common problems with the game, and the usual reason is a missing or corrupted data file. It also occurs with weak or unsupported hardware. The people who try to help here - who do so voluntarily - usually ask several questions to try to pinpoint the problem.

Your problem is unusual, but well known. If you had initially said, "I have dual monitors," you would have been immediately told that it was your problem.

Anyhow, I'm glad your problem is fixed. Enjoy the game.
