Activator Problem

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 3:47 pm

Hi

I added and activator then attached a script to it and it works just fine.

The problem is that it is on a panel with other activators, and the cube that detects the mouse over this particular activator it is too large and blocks out the other activators. When I look at in GECK with collision geometry enabled, I see a large whitish wireframe cube around it. I don't understand why it is white, why its so large or whether this is the cause of the problem.

Can anyone help out with some tips?

Cheers
/Jason

Can you post a picture of the problem ? I don't see what you mean.
By activator do you mean a trigger zone ? Because activators are individual objects and can't normally overlap

Yes, trigger zone would be a better word for it. I'm not so familiar with the terms used.

That electrical switch does have two collision boxes, one large one (the white box in your picture) which is marked as NONCOLLIDABLE and a smaller box for the actual collidable collision (the red box). I'm guessing that the larger collision box is there to make it easier for the player to select the object (which is rather small).

You have two choices, I think: space your activators out so that they do not overlap, or try to create a new version of that switch with a smaller outer collision box. It is possible that there is a minimum size for an activator, so the second option might not work.

Ok, thanks for that information. I went for the spacing option.

One more question. Why aren't I seeing these larger white boxes on other activators?

That's a very good question! I think you'd probably have to ask whoever designed that model why they chose to build it that way.
