So. For [censored]e and giggles and because I have a day off Ive decided to get this down on paper. Its a funny idea I have been mulling about in my head for a couple of years now and since I have the professional aptitude (Pol Sci Major, Mideast studies) Ill write my bid on a FO European timeline.

The timeline will be far fetched in some areas... and not far fetched enough in others. If it gains a following Ill update it with more stuff along the way. If I make blatent outright logic and lore mistakes along the way, pls do inform me. Its fiction but I do want it to be believeable fiction. If it breaks suspension of disbelief, no point in writing it. The focus will be on central and northeren European politics and history as thats what I know the most about. But Ill also include my musings on general events so it shouldnt be uninteresting for anyone.

1950:
First american "Advisors" start arriving in Vietnam in support of French forces. Two years later they run highly successfull Montagnard guerillas. 5 years later the combined effort of Advisors, a neocolonialist attitude in the name of the Domino theory and massive bombardments of all of North Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia force the Ho Chi Mihn to the bargening table. General Giap is executed for failing and North Vietnam becomes a demilitarized bufferzone between the US and China.

1954:

1961:

Rumors persist about US/German influence in the failed coup.

1962:

1970:

1977:

Within a Year the german government has had more than enough and send off members of the GSG9 anti terror unit to train with French 1st Para units in Algeria and Israeli Sayeret Matkal units. As a direct consequense The Politbureau Special Branch for Executive Research begin experiments with radiation induced mutations on animals in Siberia.

1991:

Sweden bans any car that only uses petrol. A series of hybrids start arriving and the trend spreds as fuelprizes rises. 20 years later no car in Europe runs solely on petrol. American companies complain that this trend is "absolutely unamerican" and that electrical and alternate energy vehicules are "communist fancies".

2005:
As nationalism rises in the scandinavian nations a poll reveils that almost 1/3 of young men identify their religious beliefs as "asatru". As a curiosity 1/20 worship Frank Sinatra and 1/250 worship Yogi Bear.

2009:
Refrigirator producer http://www.gram-commercial.com/ of Denmark, experiences a technological singularity as one of its researchers stumbles upon tech that ensures that almost anything put in their freezers can last for years. Two years later pharmaceutical giant "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novo_Nordisk" buys up the
company and expands their research into cryogenic freezing.

2011:
Researchers at Big MT devellop a http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2011/04/110405-nsf-oil-somasundaran-video/ The bacteria is highly aggressive and highly adaptable turning crude oil into a yellowy sulphurlike paste with no applications. In "Operation Orange" german intelligence agents release the bacteria in 9 locations in Russia. The bacteria soon spreads and eventually grinds russian economy to a halt. However Big MT engineers have not devellopped a countermeasure which causes the bacteria to spread violently. The german intelligence keeps a vial and has its own researchers find a countermeasure that it then releases without the knowledge of the US or European partners in the North Sea oilfields, effectively rendering those immune. British and Scandinavian oilfields arent affected by "Agent Orange" but the fields are too small to supply the European Commonwealth. Northeren Europe including germany however are able to keep their needs covered. The funds provided from "petrodollers" are large enough to the later Scandinavian Commonwealth to assign significant funds finance a very modern and highly nationalistic armed forces. Also the funds help initiate several covert projects, namely "Project Fimbulwinter" (A vault system akin to the US version) and the anti armour gauss gun project initially called "Project Crossbow". The latter is scrapped but gains a new interest as the US starts researching Power Armour.

2013:
Iran declares itself a nuclear state and starts a middle eastern nuclear armsrace. European states immediately beging deploying Tactical nuclear weapons in Saudi Arabia to protect own interests. At the same time European technical expertise is funneled into giving Saudi arabia their own nuclear capability. For deterrence ofcoruse. The price of oil skyrockets and a few minor states go bankrupt.

2015:
The Japanese diet worried about "harsher Chinese rhetoric" approves the construction of "Defensive Tactical Nuclear Weapons". Due to decades of nuclear power use Japan has more Uranium and plutionium http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_nuclear_weapon_program#De_facto_nuclear_statethan it has rockets to propell the bombs.

2016: The US withdraws from NATO due to budgetary and "philosophical reasons". The European Commonwealth scrambles to buy arms to make up for the US forces leaving.

2017:
As Novo Nordisk reports significant strides in Cryogenic freezing its taken over by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_Industries_%28Sweden%29, at this time a corporate front for a pan scandinavian intelligence unit.

2018:
A US citizen tries to depart Heathrow with Cryogenic blueprints in his backpack. A half burned file with the word "Enclave" recovered from the place of arrest also turns up missing. Lockheart vehemently claims he has been "Framed" during the entire trial. Soon after the verdict he dissappears.

2019:
Professor Multebaer of the University of Oslo emerges after one year of cryogenic sleep. Aside from a "Hangover so bad I feel like I have been pickeled in Akvavit" the professors seems to be ok. Professor Multebaer starts experiments with long term cryogenic sleeps employing convicts, socialists. soldiers and other "expendables".

2020:
Scotland declares independence by referendum but remains in the british empire as a commonwealth state like Australia.

2021:
After Arabic Nationalists attack and kill the Norwegian crownprince amongst several other dignitaries s in a failed kidnapping attempt in the Italian Alps, a series of vicious and premeditated attacks on non-indigneus citizens and "socialists" begin. Many shops and offices are firebombed. Hundreds die. Several European states begin erecting "Protective hamlets" and "Secured Communities" for "Socialists and Arabs". Naturally this is done to protect them from outraged lench mobs. The Dutch becomes the last nation in Europe to elect a nationalist government.

2022:
Battle of the Shetney Islands. A dispute over north sea oil causes Danish and British naval vessels to have a limited exchange. Three danish naval vessels and two british are sunk. The diplomatic fallout causes a diplomatic crisis in britains allready strained relationship with mainland Europe and Britain leaves the European Commonwealth and seeks further diplomatic ties with the US. The US however isnt interested in becomming too onesidedly friendly with Britain as Denmark still "owns" Greenland, and thusly the home of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thule_Air_Base and the Hub of its Early Warning system is located there. Furthermore the later infamous "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sirius_Patrol" of the Danish Army have at this point allready deafeated three russian and one chinese incursion due to the search for crude oil. None of these incidents ever make it to the publics eye.

2023: Agent Orange, the Crude oil bacteria has now spread throughout all of Soviet russias oilfields. Russia now begins an agressive military campain into the caucasus. The Xian/Sergei pact causes Soviet Russia and China to invade and split Mongolia in a bid to secure more resources.

2024:
A mysterious infection breaks out in the danish protective hamlet "Evigglad" (Everhappy). Mortality rate is near 38 % and fear of spreading the contamination causes the Danish Government to napalm the entire hamlet. 23 thousand die in one day. Quoting fear of spread several other European states napalm select hamlets too. Combined deathtoll europe wide is in the hundreds of thousands. However its hailed as a "great success" as no further casulties appear and the spread of the infection is stopped.

2025:
Sweden, Denmark and Norway declare themselves Nuclear powers after a test explosion on Greenland. The highly vocal environmental groups concerns are dismissed as "Hippie talk" and a few arrests are made. Inuit protestors are simply shot.

2026:
German scientists pour over ww2 blueprints to turn coal and other resources into sythetic oil and are quite successfull. However the process consumes alot of energy and even if Nuclear energy is very widespread in europe the sythetic oil is never fully able to replace crude oil.

2026:
A Holotape of US presidential Candidate Franklin Calvert fondling and mounting a Dobermann Pinscher. dressed as a Soviet Propaganda Officer is leaked to the media. His party and Family immediately disowns him and two days later he is found in his Maryland home hung by a dogleash. The lash bit does not make it to the media as it is hushed up. A few weeks later a small package containing a dogtag and anti-flea powder arrives at the dormitory of his younger brother, the later http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Professor_Calvert. The postage stamp is from Britain.

2027:
German Bundeswehr President of the Intelligence sells the recepy for "vaccinating" the crude oil wells to a Saudi/US national for an amount of money thats so obscene that he has enough funds to flee prosecution to Chile and set himself up as a dictator. Soon after the vaccination reaches the US and its allies but its too little too late. The better part of the worlds crude resources are beyond saving or going on depletion.

2028:
Bavarian master brewer Hans Oettinger invents "Continental Lager" which becomes the craze in Europe. "Its time for a Conti" becomes a figure in speech in Europe.

2029:
Riots break out in Rome after an http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D.C._United beats AS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A.S._Roma. 16 americans and 13 Italians plus a british referee are killed.

2030:
Project "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fimbulwinter" begins. The scandinavian nations that have access to oil, have built up mindboggling monetary resources. Now that money is funneled into constructing a series of Vault like bunkers and falloutshelters. At first some are disguised as "http://articles.cnn.com/2010-11-12/world/finland.nuclear.waste_1_nuclear-waste-disposal-canisters?_s=PM:WORLD" but are later by public demand the project is turned into a real bunker effort. However as with the later american Vault effort most of these bunkers are only for show and would only offer token resistence. The real project is building a series of 20 high end bunkers aimed at safeguarding the very elite of these nations. Royalty and political leaders, scientists and a handfull of artists and soldiers. Most of the bunkers are situated in Finland and in the northernmost and mountainous parts of scandinavia. This however is scrapped and instead underwater Submarine pens are constructed in Greenland and Norway.

Germany and France modify their cold war bunkers. Schwitzerland has had a mandatory building rule stipulating that each house must have a falloutshelter since the mid 1960ies. The Swiss govermental bunker is the worlds most advanced bunker with all sorts of extras such as shock absorbers from Japanese companies and inspired by Japanese bunkeres commenced the year before. This combined with compulsory military service ensures that the Swiss is the "Safest nation on earth" according to Forbes.

2036:
Australia which has the worlds http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_uranium_reserves and also the worlds most untapped deposits come under intense pressure from several allies to step up mining. The price for Australian Uranium starts resembling the price for Crude oil. Uranium is now the secondmost important strategic resource in the world. Poseidon Oil tries to enter the australian Market but Australian legislator nationalize the resources and hand contracts to australian companies. Australian "Uranium Barons", Arab "Oil Sheiks" and Scandinavian "Oil Kings" now make up most High Rollers in Macao and Vegas.

The funds generated enable the Australian government to deploy high tech continuation of goverment bunkers and vaults in the most unhospitable and unlikely places in their nation. Aboriginals that protest about their native lands being "violated" dissappear.

2038:
China takes the Philliphines and Taiwan after both nations armed forces fall victim to mysterious infections that cause intense diarrhea. Soon after select parts of Indonesia is also taken. US and Australian forces deploy to hinder the spread of the "red plague" effectively taking over the rest of Indonesia. Given the fact that US forces have withdrawn from the Phillipines and Taiwan the year before giving voice to speculations that US and Chinese diplomats have come to an "arrangement".

2039: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Stanislaus_Braun, brilliant german bio-engineer, scientist and the head of the german effort of renovating and modifying cold war bunkers, is dismissed from German service due to "Differences in perception". Rumors speak of highly unorthodox and ethically questionable practices. He is immediately given a visa to the US and is employed by West Tek.

2051:
Asias Oil reserves are now all affected by Agent Orange, as are those of the african continent. The price for Arab and middle american crude oil shoots through the roof on a bi weekly basis.

2051: Stanislaus Braun leaves West-Tec for Vault-Tec. His research into post-apocalyptic survival fits perfectly into the Vault Tec profile. As he leaves West Tec the research he left behind continues.


2052:
Using simultanious terrorist attack by Arabic Nationalists "Fighting exploitation" in Paris, Madrid and Rome as an excuse the Resource wars begin. The New Pope himself goes on record saying: "Its a duty for every christian man and woman to fight this terrorist scurge". The Northern EC states pledge oil and monetary support but in reality does nothing to aid the wareffort except pay lipservice and send of token military units. South American christians start flocking to the banner of a Papal Unit in a Crusade like movement not seen for several hundred years.


2052:
In july Soviet Russian forces attack Finland in the "Second Winter War" to secure access to the baltic and to secure a route through Norway to lay claim to the north sea oil not affected by Agent Orange. The war comes at a most inoppertune time as most southern and central European nations are at war in the mideast and the sentiment to help the "rich northerners" doesnt exist in the south. After a heated debate in both the UN and EC, the Scandinavian nations leave both organisations and ressurect the "Scandinavian Commonwealth". Germany stands center stage in a central European Commonwealth that basically is Germany and a handfull of Vassel states. The South of Europe remains in the original commonwealth and disregards the northeren pleas for help and continue their campains in the middle east.

At first the Soviet campain is highly successfull and they manage to briefly take Helsinki, but then the guerilla tactics of the finnish military units begin a punishing campain of attacks that makes any further progress grind to a halt. Attacks on supply lines essentially cut off fuel supplies and Helsinki becomes another Stalingrad where fighting is fierce and bitter from street to street and appartment to appartment.

A well planned CIA and Scandinavian/german propaganda war begins. Thousands of volunteers primarily from Scandinavia but also significant numbers from the US and Britain pour into Finland. Some of these volunteers are spys from rival nations, others are US unofficial advisors trying to gain access to Russian tech and first hand knowledge of Russian tactics.


2053
In May American volunteer Samuel Thorne-Jackson a distant relative of US / Finnish military legend http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Thorne, becomes a legend in his own right when he surpasses finnish Sniper http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simo_H%C3%A4yh%C3%A4 with 642 confirmed kills in less than a year. Evil tongues speak of cybernetic enhancements and of greatly inflating the killcount but it causes another flood of volunteers for the Finnish war when Samuel speaks to Congress about the "dire need of brave men fighting the commie bolcheviks violating innocent women and children". Samuel wants to go back to the Finnish border but is unfortunately mugged and left paralyzed. Thankfully the US army graciously offers him a job as their lead army sniper instructor. He makes a miraculous recovery after the Winter war ends when West-Tec bioengineers and Big MT physicians cure his paralysis.

In november A scandinavian volunteer unit spearheaded by a Young Danish noble named Johannes van Harpen successfully blows up Fuel depots and raids electrical power plants deep behind enemy lines near Leningrad. Volunteer units and finnish nationals are now roaming inside russia almost with impunity. Soviet civillians flee toward safer lands putting a further strain on Soviet resources. Van Harpens unit is nicknamed "The Red Ravens" due to their shoulder flash and accusations of torture abounds but nothing is ever substanciated.

2054:
Israel nukes every single capital in the arabic middle east and peppers their lands with MIRV's in retaliation for the Tel Aviv attack. At the specific request of the US and European nations oilfields are left out. Saudi and Iran fire nukes at eachother. Egypt fires at both saudi and Israel. Due to some freak accident the syrian missiles explode in their siloes. Most of the nukes fired by arab states and aimed at oilfields are shot down by american bought, Israeli made anti ballistic laser and missile systems employed by European fighters. This isnt done out of goodness of heart, only to see if the systems actually work. They do so in about half the cases. Strangely all the systems in Israel work and shoot down every single rocket aimed at them.


2055: The second winter war ends as Russia threatens use of thermonuclear weapons. The scandinavians threaten retaliation. The soviets have made no gains and a tentative peace is reestablished.

The "Red Ravens" of the Finnish campain make up the nucleus of the new "Scandinavian Arctic Jaeger Unit". Mostly to keep them from going into politics and keep them away from the public eye. Critics call this unit the new "SS-Wiking" as the unit uses alot of Norse mythology in its rituals and its insignia plus the fact that it is a unit with alot of mixed nationalities including Germans, Austrians, Canadians and a smattering of other nations offered service on Greenland.

2057: Dean Domino concludes his world tour inhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Albert_Hall. Lauded by critics and fans alike, the event overshadows the dissapearence of a diadem of the queen.

2058: Professor Multebaer Junior of the University of Oslo and his colleques awaken a batch of subjects. One of them however has been awake for the whole experience of being cryogenically frozen for 39 years and has gone quite mad. He kills three scientists before he is shot by security and was heard screaming: "Longer than you think, professor! It's longer than you think". The subjects however are fine but after extensive testing its shown that prolongued cryogenic freezing not only keeps the body in suspended animation but it also appears to slow cellular decay, in effect creating a machine that can prolong natural life.

As america rushes to defend Alaska the scandinavian arctic jaegers capture torture and kill a number of "Ice Dragoons" of the peoples republic of China. The Arctic Jaeger Units flee the base with a handfull of scientists and start employing Winter war guerrilla tactics against the occupiers. Though massively outnumbered and with little supplies the arctic Jaegers successfully retake the facility. This doesnt come without cost though. Only three members of the Arctic Jaeger Unit remain, one of them now colonel Van Harpen. Furious and insane with sadness over the troops he lost he puts the remaining Chinese soldiers through "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_eagle" and takes holopics which he then sends one chinese survivor home with. No further incursions are made into Greenland.

Fearing all out nuclear war European survivalists now start migrating to other nations, mostly the US where there are still resources to be had, but also to Australia and New Zealand. The most affluent build their own vaults in remote areas.

Resource wars end. Whatever oil was left leaves the mid east or has been destroyed in war. Hundreds of thousands of European soldiers and South american volunteers are stuck in the deserts and mountains as their commanders leave them behind on the last planes leaving for Europe. Units start fighting over resources as supplies simply dry up as logistical lines are simply cut. Radio frequencies and communications equipment is destroyed by political officers who want to avoid these soldiers reporting home. Units left behind either go native, start Bands of raiders or start pillaging on a scale not seen since the last crusades. All feel betrayed. Most die in inter-unit fighting or due to exposure of different kinds. Units that in any way shape or form maintain a semblance of order and discipline become target for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermobaric_weapon and small tactical nuke bombardments by their own airforces.

Back home propaganda movies and holovids blame the lack of returning soldiers on nuclear detonations and radiation, but praise the soldiers as heroes.

Southern Europe dissolves into small states and regional powers as everyone scrambles to secure food, water and fuel. Anarchy rules. The Swiss and Austrians close their borders. Germany and the Netherlands does the same. Anyone approaching the borders without permission are shot and soone there are regular skirmishes along the borders.

Vera Keyes stars in the Blockbuster propaganda hit "Missing in Action" about a young american wife who sent her Special Forces Advisor husband off to fight in Finland. Her "husband" gets caught by the Russian devils and only the thoughts of his pure and chaste wife keeps him sane untill he is rescued by brave Scandinavians lead by a US Special Forces Commander. Meanwhile at home his wife is beset by slimy warprofiteers and draft dodgers. Just as she is about to be violated by the worst of them, her husband steps through the door and slaps him around. The movie ends with the young soldier signing up for another period as he has to "do his part" with the blessing of his young wife. Critically panned both in the US and Europe the movie is however a massive commercial success and paves the way for a musical career where "looks and legs" on holotape matter more than voice.

2065: Edwin House of Robco begins securing tech and blueprints from around the world to protect Vegas inanticipation of armageddon. Scandinavian Cryo unit blueprints, swiss bunker tech, German Rheinmetal alloy recepies, Japanese shock absorbents tech, Israeli anti ballistic laser and rocketry tech plus a plethora of other knowledge is either bought, recieved under promise to repay certain favors, or piggiybacked out of RobCo computers used by scientists. Deactivation codes purchased or bribed out of Chinese and Russian officers visiting Vegas under aliases or under Diplomatic immunity help House keep Vegas safe. House also begins stockpiling rare materials such as platinum, gold and copper in anticipation of these materials becomming barter. He dismisses Big MT claims that Bottlecaps would become post apocalyptic currency as "Illogical" but still secures a Bottlecap press and plenty of aluminium just to be sure. The press is however destroyed in a powersurge that fries all of its electronic systems.

2066:
As the US invades Canada, the Scandinavian commonwealth agrees to hand over 2/3s of Greenland to the US as a "Strategic interest zone". Heavy drilling for oil and mining for resources begin, with limited success as it turns out that most of the territorry ceeded is either allready depleted or barren. The Danes have practiced a "scortched earth tactic" and whatever few resources remain remain solely in Scandinavian Commonwealth jurisdiction.

Abhorred by the prospect of having to fight Power Armour the Scandinavian Commonwealth throws its last resources behind an personal anti armour rifle derived from stolen Gauss Rifle designs. The Rifle employs Tungsten alloy ammunition and is highly effeciant against power armour but is expensive, requires highly trained soldiers to field maintain and the projected weekly cost for Tungsten alloy ammunition is almost as expensive as the rifle. Its later turned into a sniper rifle capability. This is one of the last european sniper rilfes and certainly the last scandinavian.

2067:
Canadian http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Rangersand http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Special_Operations_Forces_Command units (some with experience from the Finnish Winter War) that have escaped US internment begin launch a series of coordinated attacks on infrastructure and US forces. Unable to stifle the Attacks, US forces begin taking punitive measures against the Canadian civillian population as "reprisals". Soon Chinese and Scandinavian arms begin emerging in the hands of these insurgents which are never destroyed.

Scandinavian Arctic Jaegers and American private contractors (Mercenaries) have a conflict over resource in a disputed area of Greenland. It almost flares into full blown war as the Alpine Jaeger Unit hunts down and mercilessly kills 30 conctractors and scientists after the US contractors apparently firebombed a Scandinavian research installation guarded by a couple of Jaegers. Diplomatic efforts are successfull in hushing the incident down fast. In the american media the next few holoflicks now depict Chinese as beasts and scandinavians as their feebleminded hamfisted henchmen.

2069
Germany and Denmark start having border disputes as the Scandinavian Commonwealth seals the Borders and mines the entire coastline of its territorial waters. Germany becomes swamed with refugees. The foodriots previously reserved for smaller states and the south of Europe is now felt in Germany despite heavy policies of self reliance on food and natural resources. Over most of Europe marshall law becomes the rule. Looters and rioters are shot on sight. Those that can afford to leave Europe for the US, New Zealand or Australia, do or at least try to bribe their way into Scandinavia.

2070:
The scandinavian commonwealth begins reconstructing an old defensive wall "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danevirke" to keep "refugees and riffraff" out of Scandinavia. Denmark becomes a strategic bufferzone for Norway and Sweden. Finland has allready fortified its entire border and shoots anyone approaching on sight.

2077
The Great war: Denmark is destroyed as 72 tactical nuclear warheads hit. Polish amphibious forces sent in to mop up any resistance die before they even leave their barracks everyone retaliates against everyone. Sweden and Norway have enclaves that survive because of the mountains, bunkers and desolate areas.

Germany is the target of more than 800 tactical nukes and most of central europe is turned into a flaming inferno. Only in the most mountaineus regions can people escape the blasts. France spain and indeed teh rest of Europe is in the same condition.

Pockets of survivors exist but they turn to ghouls if they do not outright get destroyed. Only survivors are the ones in vaults and bunkers.

Half of the bunkers arent built to withstand violent tectonic reactions and are compromised within minutes.
