House or Yes man

Psh, what's this talk of democracy. Just because my Courier has Very Good karma doesn't mean he's going to let wastelanders who don't know what's going on vote. Besides, in my mind, a guy who took down three armies and secured Vegas as a sovereign nation deserves some dictator powers.

The house always wins! House ending is a much better ending for a more secure Mojove in the long run. Not only would it be self governing and prosperous it will be a leading power for the future.

Kill an autocrat and stop a tyrant to pave way for an autocratic tyrant. It's Animal Farm all over.

House comes the closest. He seeks normal relations to the NCR since they are his main source of money and just because House is in charge of the Strip doesn't mean the Courier just has to sit by and watch. You already shaped the Mojave, nothing prevents you from doing a little politics to shape Vegas' surroundings to your liking, most likely fitting House's plans as well since you already went through great trouble to bring him in power.

Yeah in my playthrough it's a bit of that but in reverse. I'm the one in power but I keep House around to give me advice if I need it. I respect him for his past accomplishments but he has become a bit of a dikewad and my character obviously convinced himself that he's a better candidate. Suffice to say House isn't all too happy with his 'demotion' and being out of his pod with only a year to live and all that.. but it's not like the old geezer can do much about it eh? Giggity

I just roleplay I'll find him a way out so he can be my adviser in the future. Technology in Vegas is advanced enough to replace a living dogs brain so I see no problem to give him a nice spot in a jar somewhere. It's not like that old body was any use anyway. To ensure the success of New Vegas in the future I plan to do the same to my own character by either plugging into the network like House did or scanning the brain and making my character a full artificial intelligence instead (like Victor being able to hop around to other models). The age of robots has begun. With all that radiation out there, who would want a human body anyway...

Consistency is for wussies. Besides, my plan for the Mojave will take the good aspects of every faction and meld them together seamlessly. The equal rights of NCR, the "you're worth isn't based on money, it's based on skill" mentality of Caesar, and House's technology all together. That one formspring post just made Independence completely worth it.

Sums up my feelings on democracy. Especially democracy in the wasteland.

You can't just pull political theories out of your ass and expect them to work. When you make yourself a dictator, there will always be a lot of people pissed at you no matter what kind of a hero you are.

As far as Plato is concerned, a Greek man who lived over two thousand years ago in a society with no communications, very little schooling and democracy in name only, is hardly qualified to evaluate modern democracy. I would prefer quoting Winston Churchill who actually has led a democracy.
"Democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."

The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter. - Winston Churchill
Churchill's words aren't all so different than Plato's.

There's no doubt democracy gets better as people become more informed (yay internet) but under the ruling of a good and moral dictator (pragmatically it's almost an oxymoron. though not necessarily inherently) advances can be made much quicker. The problem is, besides the fact that power corrupts, eventually someone has to replace that 'good' dictator. A democracy is the preferred form of government because of one simple thing: destruction is easier/faster than construction. One bad dictator can ruin a country in one generation.
Slow and steady progress trumps fast -but- irregular progress/regress.
