Advice for a Marksman-focused character

Post » Fri Nov 20, 2009 6:44 pm

Wood Elf highly recommended
Strategy should be based on stealth
No armour light or heavy
Carry a lightweight weapon with your bow
Make poisons and buy them!
Buy potions of invisibility on low levels
If you play on /easy difficulty, then don't even play the game/medium try not engaging a big group of enemies/hard move the difficulty slider closer to medium and only engage 1v1
Vanilla game, you'll be fine/TIE game avoid NPC's/FCOM avoid anything
Skills:Alchemy,Acrobatics/Athletics,Sneak,Marksman,Security,Hand to hand,Speechcraft/Mercatile/Armorer/Blade/Blunt/Block/Athletics/Acrobatics
If you really want to slow yourself down with crappy armour atleast don't take heavy armour
Birthsign:Steed/Shadow/Thief/Lady/Lover/Tower
Specialization: Stealth of course!
Buy and gather ingredients for making potions and potions
Avoid doing quests :P
Have fun!
Avoid attacking those that are very difficult to bring down, mostly attack weak enemies that you are sure you can kill in 1-3 hits
Avoid attacking NPC's with helmets or heavy armour

Use Duke Patrick's Combat Archery!

Stealth and poisons are good. I use bows on my Imperial Warrior (I went back and I found I still had a save, so I went with it). I'm horrible at stealth, but as long as they don't see me, it doesn't matter. You may want to take Armorer as a skill, because repairing enchanted items is useful, and paying for it can be costly.

use poisons. they'll far out damage your bow.
don't bother with sneak. get useful enchantments. drain speed 100 pnts will make enemies ignore the fact you're shooting them. make it AOE if they have friends. drain strength will prevent enemies from moving towards you. command creature if you just want to win. using high level strategies for level 50+ enemies on hardest difficulty will make the game as easy as 100% chameleon though.

incidentally, are there any summons in the game for any woodland critters? something to accompany my bosmer archer who frolicks through the woods? without mods, i run on 360 but have all dlc.

Too bad you are on a console. I have a mod I created that allows you to summon wolves, boars, lions, and bears that I could have sent you.

dang, i'd give anything to be able to summon a will o the wisp as a bosmer.

And you could make that one yourself with the Construction Set.

If you'd give anything, it'd have to be your console version ;)

 You could send it to me.

I'm not sure who I'd use it with yet, but I'm sure someone would thoroughly enjoy summoning wildlife.

Marksman is somewhat overpowered if you have a good build and do good development.

You can use Poisons, of course. However, it isn't necessary if you do not wish to use them.

Once you get to 75 Marksman (Expert) you will frequently blast the enemy off their feet, particularly large, clumsy oafs such as Xivilai and Ogres. Why bother sneaking when they can't attack, anyway? Same at low levels as long as you get Acrobatics to at least 25, and preferrably to about 50+. Even better in Oblivion planes if they get blasted into a pool of lava (oops... sorry, my hand slipped and you're dead).

Of course, spells/potions can be used to temporarily increase skills/stats for more effect.

You can use Command Creature under Illusion to get a creature follower, but you'll have to keep renewing the effect all the time.
