Do you wear the Courier duster?

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 4:00 pm

Wait...so I can be idolized by one faction, but as long as I'm vilanized on the stip I'm Indie? :ermm: wtf man?
No, the way Indie works is your Negative Strip has to be higher than your fame with the main factions, or something to that effect. I don't know. Only dialogue I get is House dialogue.

Edit: Wait, according to the Duster talk page, you need Neutral or worse with all factions in order to get the Indie duster.

Yes. I wear it. If it's the NCR or Mr House one.

If it's the independant one, I will never wear it.
I wear Ullysses one instead.

I would never, ever wear the independant one. That is pathetic and incredibely stupid! They got so obsessed with shoehorning freaking vault crap in, they ruined a entire outfit, that has absolutely zero to do with vaults in any way possible.
It does'nt need a freaking 21 on on the back! Vaults have absolutely zero to do with anything!
What's the independant thing? The Strip, casinos, entertainment. So put a card emblem on it, you don't need anything else!

I got NCRs even though I wanted Legions. It svcks how they've implemented this since it's possible to be idolized by everyone before getting the duster, likewise in my case. I'm not going to compromise my good standings for the sake of a fancy cloak, I left mine at the Divide.

The Independent Duster doesn't actually have anything to do with vaults. The emblem on the back is a 21 on a Spade...21 as in Blackjack. This is also the reason why the vault that is on the Strip is called Vault 21.

I think that's just convenient... all the Pip-Boy icons are Vault-Boys with 21.

OT: I never wear the duster thanks, got my General's Coat.

That's because Doc Mitchell, who gives you your Pip-Boy, is from Vault 21.

Are we really trying to justify the Pip-Boy in-game now? The Fallout's pick a Vault and then run-with it, that's pretty part-and-parcel at this point; they are both yellow and in the same font, apart from the fact that one's stitched to a jumpsuit and the other kinda "painted" onto the back of the coat.

The Duster looks terrible on a female character as it looks like a weird Male mesh instead of a feminine one. I'll stick with regular Leather Armor.

It doesn't look like a male mesh on my character.

My stealthy/melee/Legion character with all light armor related perks is wearing Legion duster with Marked beast face helmet from LR all the time. With Blade of the East as main weapon he looks like light armored Lanius.

If you're too cowardly to show the things you're replying to, don't bother answering. You do it all the time. you remove the statement that you're replying to, like a coward.

And it is blantantly a freaking vault emblem, it's freaking vault yellow and identical to the vault suits.

If it was for the number 21 it would be a diferent colour, black, blue, whatever. But no, it's a vault emblem. You cannot deny it.

Yeah, right. You did'nt. Others don't. Looks more like not being wiling to show the argument against him. than wanting to keep the space down, whatever his reason are.

If a post is too big, can be found again easily and my reply is meant primarily for the person I am quoting then I'll put snip in place of the quote. It isn't meant as an insult, I do it so people don't have to scroll past a huge post twice in one page. If you go to the Fallout Series Discussion forum then you'll see it used more often, there are a lot of huge posts there. Please don't insult me for trying to be considerate to other users.

OT: It does use the same font and colour as a Vault suit(though yellow does show up better then either of the colours you mentioned on the Duster). I won't deny the similarities, but I still maintain that the main reason why both are named 21 is because they both have to do with New Vegas. 21 as in Blackjack, which is a staple game for gambling. The 21 of the Independent Duster is even on a Spade, it wouldn't make sense to have it have anything to do with Vault 21 specifically.

It means whatever you want it to. Unless the developer's say otherwise then it's pointless to talk about.

i still think the 21 on the back of the duster has nothing to do with the vault. The number 21 is synonymous with gambling and Vegas.

Nope, it breaks my RP with Ruin, who absolutely despises the NCR (yet aquired an NCR duster! HAH!) so I rock the Elite Riot Gear.

When I get my new rig however, I'll be modding afforementioned Riot Gear. And maybe possibly rocking a set of MWBoS PA FNV style. :disco:

No....

Seems like you need glasses, if you don't already have them.

There's a large SPADE on the back, with "21" written on it. It's not a vault suit.

This is why it's 21:

21 is the highest number you can get in Blackjack without busting. Vault 21 is called "21" because of that Blackjack number. Heck, 21 is such a popular number in the gambling world that there's a movie called 21. So the 21 isn't about Vault 21, it's about the Blackjack number, basically a homage to gambling.

Now let me read you a quote by the Forecaster when you ask about "You": "Your face does the thinking - two to the skull, yet one gets up. Odds are against you... but they're just numbers after the two-to-one. You're playing the hand that you've been dealt, but you don't let it rest, you shuffle and stack and a gamble... a gamble that may pay off? But how? Forecast: Rapidly changing conditions."

To clarify, this is what the second part, the part that's relevant to this, means.

"You shuffle and stack and a GAMBLE...a GAMBLE that may pay off? But how?" The shuffle and stack part refers to the quest, Wild Card: Side Bets where you get information on the Mojave tribes. A gamble that may pay off is Wild Card: Change in Management and the how is Yes Man. This all points to a gamble.

One of the most famous numbers in gambling is...21. There you go.

Original Topic: YES. Especially with this mod: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/44034

the effects are not appealing enough end game for me to use the dusters. plus, i always seem to get NCR duster. i prefer elite riot gear or JG's armor. i will echo others' sentiments in that sleeveless is not a good look.

21: yes, it is a referrence to gambling. it has nothing to do with vault 21 proper. you get a duster for house, legion, ncr, and....vault 21? or yes man? which makes more sense? 21 combined with the ace of spades is about as clear as a gambling referrence (thus yes man) as you can get.
