Another newbee Modder topic

Post » Fri Nov 20, 2009 11:13 pm

Yesterday I started reading into modding and installing mods but I kinda got stuck.
I tried to make a new race (ooo, you can make a custom race.... goody....), got to the point I could actually play it but had no graphics to go with it (go figure :lmao: ). I just couldn't figure out how to set the base-model graphics but whatever... I was in waaaayyyyy over my head. Deleted everything I did, un-installed the game and re-installed it because I wanted to start over with a clean sheat. (I have bought the game so could do that again if things go pear-shaped)

Anyway; the first I learned I should do is make a back-up of the original morrowind.ini file but I couldn't find that file anywhere. :embarrass: I figured it should be in the programfile folder but couldn't see it. Am I barking up the wrong tree and should I bee looking for the morrowind.bsa or morrowind.esm file? Forgive me if it's a really dumb question but I am entirely new at this modding and have no idea what I'm doing but I learn really fast.

I also decided it might be wise just to play with some mods someone else made so I can first figure out how to implement them.
Which are fairly straightforward and an immediate improvement over the original game? I already have the TR and BM expansions so that's no restriction.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

It is in your Morrowind folder C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind

If I were you I would install a fresh copy of the game. Compress it into a zipped folder, then you don't have to keep installing the game. You can also re-name the morrowind folder and have a separate directory called whatever you like just for testing out mods you download. Its very handy for having a quick look to see weither something is to your taste, and if it isn't to your taste you don't use it in your game folder :)

Yacoby has backups of the GoTY INI http://yacoby.silgrad.com/MW/Tuts/IniTut/IniPopup/StockGOTYini.htm.

Pluto's http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1060141&hl= thread is a good place to start.
