Are there multiple Oghma Infinii?

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 3:10 am

In Skyrim's daedric quest for Hermaeus Mora, it seems like Mora considered the lockbox to be an accursed thing that trapped his book away from his reach.

But... who would have been in there within the last 200 years since the Oblivion game period to put it there?

The only surmise I could come up with was that there's more than one copy of the book. Is this a plausible conclusion or are there other explanations?

Disturbingly deep, in places where I do not want tentacles put in...

Someone put it in there and locked it via fancy Dwemer mer-blood magic, I'd imagine. Or Mora put it there by accident and couldn't get it back out.

There's only one. It just happens to be in several places at once.

Maybe the CoC/Sheo put it there as a practical joke.

That, or the Dwemer locked it there in the past, and after the Dragonborn released it, it was sent back in time.

Also, my Latin's pretty rusty, but shouldn't the plural of Infinitum be Infinita? Does this mean that 'Oghma' is, aptly, irregular?

Fate comes in triplets. But that doesn't mean there's more than one.

Septimus Signus said that whatever was in the box wasn't put there by the Dwemer.

Also, if you translate the contents of the Oghma Infinium from the ingame "mage script" and portugese, it talks about how the Oghma Infinium was locked away in the iceberg by a man who didn't want its power to be used.

You're right, except it's "infinium" not "infinitum" so the plural would be "infinia."

Azura's Star fades back to her realm over time, according to her quest. Seems reasonable to assume most if not all daedric artifacts do the same.

The artifacts (for the most part) are part of the Prince's realms, meaning that they are a part of the prince itself. So yes it could be assumed that they fade back into the realms over time.

Are there any confirmed as being not part of their associated realm?

I don't think we have explicit confirmation of this. At least the prizes from Oblivion's quests, though, are, according to Martin, actually the 'blood' of their relevant Princes. 'Course, he also says that the Great Welkynd Stone contains the concentrated power of Nirn, when we know that welkynd stones are of aetherial origin, so I'm not particularly trusting of his word.

Interestingly enough, the devs went to pains not to allow you to sacrifice the Oghma Infinium for the Paradise portal. IMO, this points to a difference in nature between that and the items of the other Princes. And y'all know http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1370566-the-ogmismol/page__view__findpost__p__20703185 it points to.

...pretty sure this is false.

I alway assumed the artifacts left Nirn after they were used by their respective champions, similar to dragon balls.
