Smoking Cigz In The Game? Opinions?

By the way, cigarettes don't make a very potent drug. Minor effects on concentration and bowl movements with long (very long) term ramifications. So why would you expect to see immediate bonuses and drawbacks?

Cigs have an effect on bowel movements? That's a new one on me and I've been smoking for 27 years.

I just think it is pretty darn silly that the ability to light up wasn't in Fallout 3 considering you svck down enough stimpacks (morphine) to put an elephant to sleep and you shoot up with jet (amphetamines) and ultrajet (meth).

Let's just say, you're thinner than you should be.

I'm with you on that. Thank god for a christian conservative nation who makes sure our games are not too... tasty...

Actually I'm about 25 pounds overweight. :P It's difficult for me to get much exercise due to my back problems and arthritis.

P.S. I'm a Christian conservative who doesn't try to legislate or force my beliefs on others.

The effects of smoking are quite obvious, and I'd have my character smoke in heartbeat if he could in F3.

Possible pros:
Smoking is cool, + 1 charisma (don't start denying this, as it is impossible to win that debate - it really IS cool)
Tobacco makes you happy, + 1 luck (if you light a cigarette, the bus always comes straight away)

Cons:
Not particularly positive for your respiratory system, - 1 endurance.
Addiction, you have to get refills. The worst addiction to get rid off (depending on personal traits it may be almost impossible).
Expensive - the only smokes in existence are pre-war, and thus scarce and costly.
Withdrawal, as someone pointed out already: - 1 charisma, - 1 luck possibly, - 2 endurance as opposed to - 1 while under the influence (smokers cough MORE when they don't get their fix)

As for the morality of the game, I don't see any reason why smoking is worse than killing people and having six with prosttutes, drinking alcohol and using drugs etc., all of which are cool activities by the way and we should be allowed to do in a game when the consequences of RL does not apply (only for you character, anyways). Of course, any hypocrite will see things differently from me on this one, and nobody is a bigger hypocrite than a puclic relations or marketing person. For all of the Fallouts so far, there have been compromises between edability for the masses and the total cool outlaw game I'd like to have, but it's still way cooler than anything else.

smokers cough and hack up more stuff more for like 2 weeks after quitting, then it starts clearing up, the only people who think cigarettes are cool are stupid [censored] kids, they end up just becoming something you do because its been a habit, ive smoked for 10 years and i hate it.
as for morality, their original idea was to have you sit down and actually do the drug and they were forced to take that out they then became just consumables
killing people having six with prositutes drinking alcohol and using drugs are all cool activities? what are you 14, got alot of growing up to do little boy.

Yeah, the lack of smoking in Fallout 3 annoyed me too. It certainly would add to roleplaying. As a smoker, I know that I'd have one after a serious adrenaline rush such as a firefight. I see no reason why my character shouldn't be able to do this too. I don't think anyone could possibly be stupid enough to start smoking because they think it looked cool in Fallout.

Anti-smokers would basically have a hissy fit.

You're obviously right.

I for one, would like to see a game where you wake up every morning, do a good job at the office, and come back home for a warm dinner made by your loving wife.
