Ooooh, yes. Well, there's really no easy way to do it aside from getting experience with it. The old maze trick of hugging one wall might work, except that's a little less useful with mazes that loop back in on themselves (but it still works fairly well). Once you've played the game a bit, you might start recognising the repeating patterns the dungeons are made out of, which will help a lot. Until then... if your problem is finding the quest location, you could semi-cheat (it's not really that much of a cheat if you've already sunk hours into the dungeon, in my opinion <_< ) by activating the cheatmode and using the "[" and "]" keys to move around. If getting out is the problem, you can either invest in the Recall spell, or (again with the debug tool) use a trick with the alt-F11 cheat to warp back to the exit.

If you look at the map in the dungeon, the exit appears as sort of a green box. But it's hard to see, next time when you first enter a dungeon you should look at your map and see what it looks like.

The dungeons are built from big blocks of maze connected together at the edges. You can tell where those edges are because the floor textures change. You can learn the layout of each piece and then exploring dungeons becomes more about which blocks are connected.

Naturally, when someone asks for dungeon help the first response advises the [ ] cheat
Lame!

Get comfy with the dungeon map. it's got the full 3D main map that is super helpful, and I tend to check it at each intersection to refresh meself on where I've been and where I haven't. Also, secret doors will show on your map even if you don't notice them yourself, so long hallways are good places to give a quick map check to see if you missed a secret door. Finally, the splotch of yellow pixels in the upper left represents the dungeon as a whole. The red pixel is the general location of the exit, the blue is you (or maybe that's backwards but you'll figure it out).

You mention dropping gold to mark places you've been, but do note that if you drop gold it disappears leaving no pile. Better to drop ingredients or bits of leather armor, both are light weight and easy to come by in dungeons.

Also, you can select blocks of the dungeon and they will blink. So when you enter the dungeon, click on the entrance block and it should keep it marked on your 3d map.

The trail of bodies works pretty well for me, instead of the trail of items. I try to pay attention to any kind of landmark near the entrance, like a room with a closet and switch, or one of those creepy torture rooms.

Usually i make a trail of junk not to get lost. One piece after a cross section or bellow a door arch . When you reach a cross section look for the corridor that has a junk pile and go in that direction. If a door arch has a junk beyond it means cross that door. It's harder to mark the huge rooms but the trick is similar.

For exploring the dungeons

The Mark/Recall spell or a item enchanted with the spell and cast at the entrance

Water breathing / walking for the underwater parts

Regenerate health potions or spells when you can't rest

a cart to haul out all your loot!

Once you learn the 3D map, it gets easier..

Levitating and/or climbing are also useful in dungeons. Fortunately, climbing you basically get for free just by doing it until you can do it reliably.

Right hand rule will only get you so far.

Learn how the dungeons are built and everything will be so much easier.

Explore one entire dungeon block before moving on to the next one. This way you divide the dungeon into more managable chunks.

Pro tip: Don't go around looking for floor texture changes, as this happens within blocks as well. Just check the yellow minimap mentioned above. When you move into a new dungeon block, your red marker will jump one "pixel" on the map.

After a while you will learn where the quest locations are in each dungeon block and you can race towards your goal from the get-go.

Learn this and a typical crawl will take you 10-15 minutes maximum, depending on your play style.

Naturally, a dungeon block has four sides. Any side not bordered by another big dungeon block instead has ramps and stairways that dump you out on a different level of the same block... "elevator blocks," so to speak. They become easily recognizable— long, winding, often steep stairs and maybe a small room or two. There are never any quest objectives in these elevator blocks or in the little rooms, but they are useful for getting up and down within the same block and keeping your bearings.

Well, you might if you search in Mages Guilds in various cities. Otherwise, you can a) invest some points into Intelligence at next level-ups, and B) train Mysticism with cheaper spells to decrease spell cost.

When it comes to a Recall spell you don't have many choices.
1. Increase your Intelligence until you have enough spell points.
1a. Train Mysticism to bring the spell cost down.
2. Make 5th rank in the Mages Guild or in the temple of Julianos in order to get access to an Item Maker who could then enchant an item with the recall spell.

There are, I suppose, a great many possible enchanted items you CAN'T buy, find as random loot, or receive as a quest reward. Unfortunately an item enchanted with Recall is one of these. (Water Breathing is another).
