Daggerfall letter-opener unboxing

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 3:57 pm

After countless searches I finally obtained for myself one of the very rare daggerfall letter openers and appearently along with it an unopened wax sealed letter(which I will not be opening). Enjoy.

The letter opener is contained within a hollow book.

I was hopeing somebody here could tell me the contents of the wax sealed letter I'm afraid to even touch it much less open it.

WE WANTS IT

Everyone else who has one of these probably feels the same... you should all come together and form a committee to decide who should sacrifice their letter for the good of all. Then you should record the opening of the letter and post the video on youtube.

EDIT: Hmm... well, it turns out that there are only three in existence. Bethesda has one, I think Mark (ex bethesda dev) has the other, and of course you have the third.

Bethesda's is in a glass case and I doubt you could get them to open it. But maybe you could email Mark to see if he's played around with his..?

You know, it would be really funny if the letter just turned out to be a nifty receipt from the person you bought the knife from, rather than anything Bethesda put together.

Is it actual wax on the paper or a rubber replica?

Its actual wax and the edges are actually burnt in a similiar way to the redguard map.

Did you decide to open it then?

And what is the seal emblem?

I haven't opened it yet but I will when I get home tonight. The seal is his personal seal and the letter is a letter of authentication.

Yes, it's hard to tell what "tonight" means if we don't know where you've planted yourself on the globe. :-)

I just found out who had the letter-opener and I just asked if he was willing to sell it and I guess I got lucky.

Yeah, how much did it cost? Did you sell your house for it?

I won't say exactly how much but it wasn't that much

Never even knew such a thing existed. Pretty cool. I'd love to just have the hollow book part just because collector's editions of games that come in hollow books look cool.

Can you post another picture of the letter opener except a bit closer so we can see it better?

There's a decent image on the original designer's site http://home.comcast.net/~mjonesgraphics/index00.html The text implies it was more widely available in Europe, but I may be mis-reading things.
