Two genres and the split fanbase

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 8:43 am

Generally speaking there are two camps here:
-TES has been getting worse. They keep cutting features and content, breaking things that didn't need fixing, gutting things that needed fixing, and don't seem to understand what made their early games worth playing.
-TES has been getting better. You're a self-entitled minority, it's our series now.

Yeah, guess which opinion I lean towards.

But you know exactly the groups I'm talking about. The news of a TES MMO, even by a separate studio, was received by me with much bitterness. But then I had a sudden burst of hope. Awhile ago I posted a looooooooong rant about how they need to make seperate games so that they can split the mixed genres they've been muddling with to appease more players. And holy bull-netch:
Both the traditional TES and TESO will exist simultaniously! You know what that means?
The majority of TES fans I disagree with will probably leave for the MMO!

Now the singleplayer TES can stop lobotomizing themselves for the "casual" market!
And all those who disagree can shove it, because it looks like they have their own entire game now!

I am suddenly optimistic!

How completely biased. You don't even post the other argument.

Good for you. I plan to play - and, I hope, enjoy - the MMO when it is released, just as I have played and enjoyed all of the Elder Scrolls games.

I refuse to categorize other players' play styles. And I refuse to allow any other player to categorize my play style.

If I put the entirety of both sides here, this would devolve into thread #9000 of the two camps arguing. The only reason I list anything of either is so you know what I'm talking about.
Which apparently you do!

I would think the MMO would attract more of the RPG gamers, honestly. Those games are 100% character skill over player skill and an MMO setting where the player literally is just another denizen of the world is infinitely more conducive to a role-playing scenario where someone might want to just be a fisherman, or a monster hunter, or whatever, than a story-driven single player game where you are always the chosen one, whether you choose to answer the call or not.

Is it odd that I'm in neither group. I do miss pretty much all of the features they cut, as I consider myself a hardcoe rpg fan, I still think the series is getting better and better. Why? Because the whole appeal of TES is how fun it is to explore the world, and they keep getting better and better at that with each passing game, so much so, that I forgive them for a few bad decisions.

So your biased against a biased group?

haha..

anyways, the hard facts is that this "dumbed down" new fans, are paying for the series. I agree that skyrim lost alot of what morrowind had, however, i understand they want a bigger market. Next gamee, new risks will come

Maybe this online game will send all the multiplayer n00bs away and the talk of co op will finally die.

Damn it, Fallout and TES were my favorite games because they were 100% single player, I don't want any other player existing! This MMO will surely divert those people away.

Because this series was never designed with co op in mind. TES is completely a game to play by yourself. It's easy to get immersed and explore the vast details the game has. I think if you want co op, the MMO will surely be the place to go. When it launches, I'll check it out and get my co op dungeon fix. More people doesn't always mean better. So maybe my choice of words was a little harsh, it's just a topic I dislike hearing about so much. This MMO is just good news for me.

Also, I want to point out, that the first group is the self entitled minority. I do understand the points you are making, but the long time fans are outnumbered by the new fans and the old fans feel that they own the series because they've been playing longer than others. The latter group seems like a minority, but only because the 1st is more vocal. Hell hath no wrath like a disgruntled pc player.

Reason why so much hate on Co op is because the few decisions and consequences we make would have to be railroaded to accommodate the extra wheel. Thats so that both players get to feel immersed, otherwise look at fable for what ur biddy will be like. The gag clown that feels like hes shes not even supposed to be there or feels like a personal butler or whatever.

Heres the thing karmas a [censored]. The next game that rolls around and all the first timers get ahold of their second tes, they be [censored]ong and complaining about all that was lost and how the next game is shallow compared to skyrim. that and bugs and glitches are the one thing u can always count on with Bethesda games. Give them a couple of years and if they still with us, a good majority will becomplaining about all the lost stuff and the direction its going.

It will be fun but no there wont be any risks BC they made a killing off the arpg and those dollar signs tell them that easily accessible situations and more VA so people dont have to read is the way to go.

Less work and more flash!
