After receiving the quest I freed "Dahlezza-whats her name" and all the rest but I was not recognized for doing it . I tried going the other way, killing the two head people, one on the second floor of the castle and the other "Vibrato" ??? but he is no longer in the mine office . Next I tried to discern how to do the cheat thing and use the console which was also non productive .

Would someone be kind enough to help a dumb old gamer and please point me toward the correct door ? Thank you, hagar

What "cheat thing" have you tried? Have you looked http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Shut_the_Mines_Down?

Also, what is the patch level of your game, and do you have any mods installed which might conflict here?

Yes, I started with the UESPWiki but I could not find the right command to advance the stage and no, I have no mods installed . The patch # is 1.1.0605 . The last time I played this before Oblivion came out it worked just fine . To me the Oblivion commands are more straight forward . I just do not understand some of them in MW .

Try these and it should advance you properly;

journal HR_CalderaDisrupt 100

Player-> AddItem, ebony_boots 1
Player-> ModReputation 1
"garisa llethri"-> ModDisposition 20

I'm not sure if the last one will work though as it's normally used by the calling object. If it doesn't, just click on Garisa with the console open and type;

ModDisposition 20
