Night Eye Bug?

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 4:10 am

I've been having an issue with Night Eye. It appears as though if I apply a Night Eye spell when I still have one running (Say I apply a Night Eye spell and then reapply it before the duration is over), it leaves me with 0 Night Eye even though it states I have more in my status effects list. Is there a fix for this? The only work around I've seen is to cast Dispel on yourself (To Dispel the Night Eye effect) and then reapply the Night Eye.

I'm hoping I can find a better solution here. All help is appreciated.

I am using it but I don't recall seeing a bug fix for this particular problem.

What duration do you have on the Night Eye spell? Is it let say 10-30 pts (min: 10 pts - max: 30 pts) or is it 20 pts (min: 20 pts - max: 20 pts)?

I'm not sure what the duration of the spell has to do with anything. In any case, I did some testing and it seems like if you reapply Night Eye from a source that has already placed Night Eye on you and the effect is still active, the Night Eye sort of incorrectly wraps mathematically. For example, if I reapply an 80 magnitude Night Eye from the same source while the original effect is active, the result is 20 Night Eye as opposed to 80 (100-80). So if you reapply 100 Night Eye then it's 100-100 = 0.

Why does it do this? I don't know. Bad algorithm somewhere. What I'm interested in, however, is a fix (If it's out there).

Well I can't comment on that since I don't know exactly what the cause is, but from my experience I haven't got any issue with the Night Eye spell.

What MCP version are you using or do you using some spell mods?

I'm not using any spell mods and if you're not having any issues with the Night Eye spell then why are you asking me redundant questions? In any case, I'm using the latest version, 2.0.

If I had to take a guess as to why you're not having issues with the Night Eye spell I'd have to say that either your magnitudes don't exceed 50 or your durations are short enough that you never reapply the spell again while it's still active.

Confirmed. You might want to request a fix in the code patch thread.

Alternatively you can cast two individual spells on a rotating basis, which is not a much better solution, I know.

You can also use spells that has the same effect at the same time without this spell bug I think, but they must have different names and I know you can do that if you visit a spellmaker.

The most convenient workaround I'm currently employing is just reducing the magnitude to 50. When it gets reapplied it just does 100-50 = 50 so I'm not losing any magnitude on the spell. Is the code patch still being worked on? I'm not really aware or knowledgable of it's current development.

If I considered this 'bug" a problem and just HAD to have 80 night-eye, my solution would be to equip a 30 pt. CE enchanted item and cast the 50 pt. spell as needed.

So you're pretending it's not a bug (Hence you putting bug in quotation marks) because it doesn't affect your current playstyle and inventory set? You're being a bit daft, truth be told. I also have a constant effect item with Nighty Eye. Doesn't really make this bug any less of a problem or any less of a bug.
