What's so bad about cliff racers?

You WILL learn to hate them.

I've definitely played over 1000 (maybe 2000?) hours of the game since it was released, and like I said I used to hate them but I've gotten over it.

Frequency of attacks by them can be annoying, but OTOH they can literally be a green, renewable cash cow. Their plumes are relatively light and bring up to 30 gold per plume (at least that's the number that sticks in my mind). That can buy a few days lodging and meals  and support your other activities that generate 'real' money  Plus they give ample opportunity to improve various skills, such as marksmanship or destruction or ... (fill in blank) So I think of them as a mixed blessing - both annoying yet a RP feature to provide a living for us subsistence-based hunters and ingredient gatherers

To be honest, I can never resist the urge of
Spoiler

Taking those orcish armor pieces from Caldera and selling them to creeper at level 1, then buying the invisibility ring from the nearby store and using it to loot everything from Suran/Dren Plantation to sell to creeper. Usually I have about 20,000 gold after 20 minutes of playing.
I'm such a bad roleplayer. ):

Cliffracers are like Fargoth :everyone hates them because everyone else hates them. In the game, neither is particularly annoying.

I usually cast invisibility spells when I want to go somewhere quickly.

Later, when you have overpowered on target destruction spells with high area effect & there are like 5 of them on your back, it's satisfying to see them fall all at the same time.

Not really, Fargoth is just a meme in the community but cliffracers..

Flying creatures don't really work well in MW, especially cliff racers, they get stuck on trees, hill slopes and the combat music just keep playing.. as people have stated theres also the frequency of the attacks..

I think the problem is when we were all noobs and didnt know how to build a crc effectively, combined with being lost in the molag amur region and constantly being attacked.

I think it's because like upon reaching to level 15-20 you start getting like 10 of them in one little area. You turn around. And see 6 more.

Weird... I have a level 40 character and I'm never attacked by more than 1 or 2 'racers. Never in ten years of playing have I seen that many cliff racers. Are people using a mod that increases the number of spawns or something?

As for not being able to look up? Tab key is a click away. Is this an x-box problem?

I could just as easily be ambushed by a shalk or a kagouti or a rat on any trip somewhere. Sometimes if it's a kwama attacking me, it's so small it takes a bit to look around and find out what's hitting me.

This thread is really interesting to be because I have been wondering a long time why people hate the racers more than any other monster - they all seem the same to me. I have a chitin cliff racer retexture mod that I'm almost done with that I shelved because people just seem to hate cliff racers.

It seems to happen, at least for me, when I'm traveling through the Ashlands or Molag Amor regions under two circumstances - one, I get stuck in a fight that takes a bit longer that I expected and others join in, and, two, when I deliberately bait them by ignoring them for awhile while walking or flying in order to let a group of them follow me. Afterwards, the bodies are spread out in a circle around me, which in a perverse sort of way is rather aesthetically pleasing

I have the same problem with rats, bats and bees (one mod I use adds them to the game) because they blend in very well with the background and are so small for me to actually see

They are a brake to travel. So are many other possible enemy events, but the thing about cliff racers is that they seem to take much more time setting about their attack, and you can't do anything to hurry them up (at least, not unless and until you have some nice ranged Destructive spells at hand). They're like the driver just ahead of you on a one-lane road with a speed limit of 50 mph who insists on doing 25.

I'm usually a very caring sort, but I wouldn't mind herding the lot of them up and selling them to abot to make into the aerial equivalent of kids' pony shows.
