Assassin problems at really low level...

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 12:21 pm

So i just started, i just got to that town with the inn or conerstone place that you need to go to, i joined the fighters guild and after along time of training, i killed the rat down stairs and the rats upstairs, but now when i go to talk to the lady who owns the house there is an assassin the house that keeps killing me, i can't kill him and i need to talk to her to complete it... so what should i do? i've tried waiting and sleeping and he's always there.

He's form Tribunal expansion. They're tought, but should be killable even at the beggining (they get stronger with the player character). If you're on PC, you can use a mod that delays their attacks.

Did you rest after killing the rats? ...because the Tribunal assassin should only appear after you rest. If you didn't rest, do you have MCA or Starefire's npc mod?

all the assassin are dark elves so I always end up just killing them with frost magic.

you can always just disable the tribunal expansion until a later time, that way no assassins appear.

The assassin isn't that hard. I killed him with a lvl 1 character, no armor and armed with only the dagger you get at the beginning of the game.

Anyway a weapon with paralysis or a nasty spell should do the trick.

The easiest solution is to just lower the difficulty to zero for that one encounter, wax the assassin, and take his armor and sell it. Then follow that quest line immediately to end the assassin attacks. All you need to do is tell a guard, go to Ebonheart, transport to mainland, then tell a guard in Mournhold. After that, you can head back to Vvardenfell and adventure on like normal.

Assassins have always been incredible fun throughout the series. I'm pretty sure that, out of the many builds that are played in the Elder Scrolls games, assassin's the most played one. Second only to battlemages, then warriors. However, unlike in Skyrim and Oblivion, assassins start off a bit weak. Because of this, you can't be a pure assassin right away. Mix in some marksman and stealth with your early levels, and everything'll be progressively easier as you go through the game. Just find a shadowy spot in whatever area you're in, and start shooting like a madman. Don't stop when you're shooting with a bow unless your opponent's really close to you, because you'll usually find that that last arrow could've finished him off. If you're finding difficulty with using these two skills, then search for guides on how to raise them efficiently with ease; I'm sure you'll find lots, because this game is already really old. Hope that I've helped!

Dude, his problem was about the Tribunal assassins who have a chance of showing up every time you sleep, not playing as an assassin. :P

As for the assassins themselves: When you happen to kill them, especially on the lower levels, selling their armor can give an huge boost to your funds for training and other needs, such as potions (if you dont brew them yourself, like I do). Although I recommend using a delayed DB attack mod for the sake of roleplaying, for reasons explained in the spoiler. It all boils down to an 'accident'.

Spoiler
You'll figure out later that king Helseth send the assassins after you, an ex-prisoner with zero status

I usually sell the armour, even if my character is using Light Armour skill. It's too strong for a beginner character and it makes the game too easy, IMO. Also, if I'm roleplaying (and I usually am), walking around Vvardenfell looking like one of them is usually not something my character would be comfortable with...

They are a pain but can be killed by your lvl 1 guy, but you have to prepare. OTOH, after a few games, I found the idea that my obscure, fresh off the docks char who knows nothing and has no reputation should be targeted for assassination a bit hard to swallow, so I now use a mod to postpone when the DB appears.

You don't even have to go that far. After you've talked with Apelles Matius in Ebonheart, the attacks will stop, even though the quest remains active in your journal.

This is something that varies by character for me. If I'm playing a "good" character, selling the armor as soon as possible makes sense. On the other hand, a stealthy thief type might find the stuff too handy to pass up. One of my characters sold everything but the boots, but continued to wear them.

Once you level up to a decent level marksman is very satisfying and all the hard work feels worth it.

That's good to know, I didn't realize that. Thanks!
