Werewolves in Oblivion

Post » Sat Nov 21, 2009 11:30 am

I heard from someone that werewolves appear every 100 year is that true? If Yes, then werewolves didn't exist in Oblivion because it is set in the 3E right? I don't know much about Lore but i'm really into werewolves.

The main reason for them not being there is mostly this. The devs were lazy.

You're thinking of the Bloodmoon "curse", which happens once at the end of every Era. The Daedra Prince Hircine then has a Great Hunt and calls upon his Hounds to hunt with him. Werewolves greatly increase in numbers, but they do exist at other times as well.

Well, the developers just chose to NOT put the werewolves in. Sorry, about that lad.

Were they lazy when they made Morrowind and didn't put werewolves in?

Or, this part of Nirn doesn't contain wereCreatures...at least not ones we know about.

Of course, Beth could have been being lazy...when the 'due date' for the game was near, they probably cut a few corners here and there. (Probably also why there isn't mounted combat.)

They got "lazy" with Morrowind over all, if one think about how they originally wanted it to be. At least, if you don't count stuff like technology, resources, time and money. :foodndrink:

Why don't we just make a mod to add some and stop complaining?

Really, I think that they were not placed in there because they are not a key part of the game and were not in vanilla Morrowind either.

Just to point out. You ain't mainly in Oblivion in the game Oblivion but in Cyrodiil.

But then I doubt that werecreatures couldn't have made it to other parts of the Empire. So in my ES universe there should atleast exists one or more werecreatures in nearby lands.

Because it's not our job to make the game. It's theirs. Being supposedly free and open games, they shouldn't be limiting our enjoyment by leaving stuff out. Besides, Bloodmoon is the only instance of the alternate forms (vampirism/lycanthropy) being important to the questline. It's the extra things you can do that make the world nice to be in.

And on that note, I wouldn't want to encourage the devs in any more "we'll make it how we want, if they don't like it they'll mod it anyways" behavior. It's odd that the modders being so good actually hurt us.

A mod for werewolves already exist. Actually I think there is two, but I have only tried one of them, and the only way to get infected is by drinking a potion that you must buy from someone.

But as Jormungandr said, it isn't our job.
I'm not sure how exactly Bethesda have been developing the game (despite seeing the vid on the bonus DVD in the Collector's Edition), so why it has been left out, aside from deadlines I have no idea of.

They were always kind of a novelty. Hardly critical to the atmosphere of the game.

WEREBOARS!? SCREW THE F**KIN' WEREBOARS! WHAT ABOUT THE F**KIN' WERESHARKS??? :banghead:

Lol, I'm joking. Eh, I honestly hate hating on the devs for some stuff in Oblivion (mainly because people do it enough already), but it does kinda svck they didn't add them in, but I'll assume good faith and just think they did it because of maybe time constraints or similar constrictions. I CAN live without them though, but it would have been cooler to have them.

That said, I love Oblivion too much generally speaking because it did sooooo much stuff that I wanted Morrowind to have (like the actually-coherent stealth system and quick switch hotkeys, among other things).

Pretty much. They were lazy when it came to many aspects of Morrowind. Maybe if they had took their time, it wouldn't have froze up and glitched all the time. Don't get me wrong, Morrowind and Oblivion are both great games and the Devs have done an amazing job on both, but I think they could still do better.

I blame you.

Yes, that's right. You. You sad, sniveling little consumer. You know what I'm talking about: the sweaty palms as you caressed that game box, the shaking hands as you inserted the CD into your desktop. It felt so wrong -- you KNEW you were going to be violated -- but you did it anyway. You sad, miserable little person.
