Mod fever and a new character

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 8:03 am

For five years, I played Oblivion without mods. Then for a year I gave Angel a few limited treats (portable campsite and damage-speed spell.) As I researched these early additions I saw the incredible array of mod options on TesNexus. I knew it was time to start a new character and really pump up the game.

Her name is Sarah, not to be confused with Sarrah (two 'r's) my earlier character. Sarah is an Imperial Nightblade born under the sign of the Mage. She will not be using her blade, light armor, and acrobatic majors so she will be somewhat slower to level up and will probably cap off somewhere along the line. Nevertheless she is already level 15.

Sarah will never suffer from loneliness. She heard about some orphanage children and adopted one of them. Amanda was dressed in ragged sackcloth when Sarah found her. Sarah soon had her http://imageshack.us/f/688/screenshotat20120421193.jpg/ for such an adorable girl. To protect the two of them Sarah has recruited http://imageshack.us/f/254/screenshotat20120423173.png/ to be their bodyguard.

Sarah is all about her alchemy business, shopping and her new family. Being a total amnesiac, she remembers nothing before that day she woke up in the Imperial prison. Her favorite abode is the pirate ship the Marie Elena. With the help of Amanda and Winden, she has also set Benirus Manor straight.

Sarah is currently seeking grand soul gems to enchant Mandy's clothes for extra safety. Since the shops didn't have any filled grand soul gems, she has gone out on the road solo to make her own. It's harder to capture souls in a crowd.

As is my style, if Sarah should die in the game, I will never load and play her again. I expect her to have a grand and glorious long run in the upgraded world of Cyrodiil.

This sounds like the start of some great roleplaying. Amanda is cute as a button.

The mods are truly enchanting even if the learning curve to install some of them is a little steep. The All Natural and Immersive Interiors mods took learning all about Wrye Bash before I could get it working. Each new add-on just makes me want more. I might try going for Better Cities next.

Sarah now has a cook pot and recipes for delicious meals, saddlebags are available if she picks up a horse, and where sleeping arrangements get too tight, she can drop a pretty bedroll for the night.

I'm still learning about how to deal with partners. Sarah took a room at the West Weald Inn and released her companions (stay here) expecting them to crash out. Instead they both left the room. Next morning She searched the whole place before finding them behind a locked door upstairs using a Detect Life spell. (No innuendo please. These are purely platonic relations.) Not wanting to break in she tried enabling a companion ring she had in her inventory. Mandy reappeared in the hallway along with another girl, Molly from the orphanage but Winden has remained stuck behind that locked door.

I hate to reload so Sarah has gone out on the road from Skingrad to the Imperial city with Mandy (mage) and Molly (archer). Her new daughter and her friend proved to be potent defenders leaving Sarah very little to do but cast a summon and repair equipment afterwards. Sarah had to really hustle to even get in a soultrap spell.

You′re telling me

I also played for about five years without mods. Then I got my first mod, then the second one. All I can say is it just kept on rolling and now I have nine, one for each Divine :hehe:

Only nine????

Once I got rolling it has been download, install, test, rinse, spin, repeat. The companion feature alone is amazing and there are a ton of very sophisticated celebrity mimics on Nexus. I've been thinking of adding Captain Jack Sparrow just as someone Sarah can pass by in the night. Actually Sarah takes great pride in Amanda and thinks tomboy Molly is a perfect companion for her 'Mandy'.
