A note: To Bethesda Softworks
I know you guys are probably god knows how deep into the game, and are probably finished. But please, please, please, please! Acknowledge these suggestions. Please read through them. I know they may be a real pain to add in, but please, make this game special. Make this game, that game all your fans want to go back to in case you begin to make really sh-t titles, (cough, Infinity Ward). I really want Fallout: New Vegas to be the one game I'll never forget. Thanks Bethesda Softworks, keep up the good work!
After seeing the teaser for Fallout: New Vegas, I have to say, I can't wait for this thing to come out.
So I've made a humongous list of things that I'd absolutely die for to see in Fallout: New Vegas
Section 1: Game Mechanics/Physics
Now, to start off, (not to bash Bethesda or anything), but one of the many things that disappointed me in Fallout 3 was it's physics engine and animations. The physics were quite silly looking, and nonetheless an eyesore. An example would be this video, of a player jumping off Tenpenny Tower (Figure 1.0). Compare this to (Figure 1.1), a video on GTA IV, jumping off the building (yes I am aware of the fact that GTA IV uses the RAGE engine whereas Fallout 3 and NV use Gamebryo.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ks08jHxijBA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuwvXJodFak
Note the way the character jumps onto the ledge to jump, instead of climbing over it. I know it may be a real pain to make it so the player/ncp climbs over surfaces instead of jumping, but please do attempt to do something like this. It would make the game look so much better. Another thing to note is the way the character falls in Figure 1.0. She appears to be doing some sort of mid air hopping animation, whereas in Figure 1.1, Niko Bellic falls like an actual human being would. Another thing to note in comparison with Figure 1.0 and Figure 1.1, is when you fall off a tower in Fallout 3, you do not hear any wind blowing past you as you jump off or even hear any wind rustling and blowing as you would in real life (A very good example of excellent falling effects would be Figure 1.3).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9mKexOBw1I
Please do note as in Figure 1.3, the character appears to flail her hands around while she falls. Now I did ask above to have GTA IV styled falling so, please do have the camera in first person rotate, as the character falls in free fall, (please do have it with the weapon in the hand too). Also, do add the effects of falling (e.g., the wind, the blurry screen, and as you make it to ground have everything go crazy like it does in Figure 1.3), and please add some realism to it too, like for example, as you fall, and you have your weapon it your hand, you may randomly loose grip of it and let it drop, depending on your endurance level. It would make for some really excellent Fallout: New Vegas falling montages  .
Another thing that would be excellent is have some first person effects as you do things. For example, some first person effects while walking, or jumping, see figures 1.4a and 1.4b)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VIWu0fhIs4&feature=player_embedded
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7pw4VjF14g
Note in figure 1.4a the sixiness of the animation while moving. That would make for some excellent Machinimas, and excellent depth in the first person perspective. Figure 1.4b is just another example of that first person effect while jumping. The ability to see your feet would be another excellent thing. Please for the love of god, let us see our own feet. Another thing to have is concussion effects/ tired effects (hardcoe mode only for tiredness), where your head (camera), begins to bobble around, the screen blurs a bit, and you slowly shut your eyelids a bit (have that effect in the the first person perspective, please!!), and occasionally you pass out and it you fall to the ground, having the camera sorta look like in a real life perspective if you are lying on the ground. (See figure 1.5 for an example of an excellent "passing out effect", the effect from being captured at vault 87, scroll to 6:51 in figure 1.5)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_VnbI8UmF4
To continuing on the topic of first person effects/animations, some of the things you must have are animations of the character using the items. For example, healing animations, like removing bullets, using stimpaks and med-x, etc, see figures 1.6a and 1.6b.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENswNs3Q-Fg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nF03s_DDAtw&feature=related
Other nice first person effect would be eating food/ drinking water, where you pick up the item and bring it up to your mouth (the camera), and an omnomnom sound effect plays, (and occasional have food be rotten without you knowing it, and have a "spitting out animations, along with staring at the food item with disgust), along with a gulping sound effect and a "ahhh" sound effect in satisfaction when you are done drinking. Another effect would be the effect of being hit by someone/something. For example, if an ncp hit's you, it would have a camera effect of feeling the impact, depending who and what hits you, there should be a different effect. For example, see Amata where to punch you in the face, it should show you reacting to it, in this case your head bobble to the right on the impact, and there should be some sort of other camera affects, like instantly blinking for half a second, and have that sound effect. If say a raider where to hit you in the face with brass knuckles or a police baton, your head should bobble even more from the impact and have some other effects too, and etc, and etc for each different npc size (should be about 3 different types of reactions). Along with that, do have it so if you are limping your camera moves and boggles as if you really were limping.
Now probably one of the things I most wanted from Fallout 3 was a cover system. A cover system that actually functioned. To be honest, I was probably one of the many people who never made use of the 3rd person perspective option mainly because of the fact that the the only reason I would of ever used the 3rd person perspective is to obvious look at the epic outfit my character was wearing. What would really do this game some justice would be the addition of a cover system. A great example of a cover system would probably be more so the Gear of War cover system, rather than the GTA IV cover system, seeing how the Gears of War genre fits the Fallout genre much more than the GTA IV genre. (See figure 1.7)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoPC_ibBJiQ
Please add cover to EVERYTHING. Almost all surfaces, staircases, everything that you could possible take cover to, and make sure the cover is breakable, which brings me to my next suggestion.
DESTRUCTIBLE ENVIRONMENTS. Please for the love of god add destructible environments. I know it might make this game very graphically intense, and not so friendly for older computers, but please add the option in, in the graphics/ game settings to set the intensity of the physics in the game. Most of the entire capital wasteland was all gritty and nuked up, but the thing that bugged me the most is: you could never destroy any of the environments! You couldn't toss some frag grenades at a water towers rusted, 200 year old leg and watch the entire damn thing collapse. You couldn't ever launch a mini nuke at an old, run down capital wasteland home, and watch the entire building disintegrate/light on fire/ collapse. You couldn't shout out an old wooden door with a 12 gauge, you couldn't get a minigun, and fire at all the old buildings support columns and watch the ceiling collapse on you. That really was probably one of the biggest buzz kills in the game. But thankfully someone as released a mod that has some destructible objects, mostly props, but at least it something to start off on, check it out http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1904 A good example of destructible environments would be figures 1.8a and 1.8b.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-0cZ5CI9Z4&feature=related
Other than that, please do consider any of the following. Now on to section 2!
Section 2: Animations/ Artificial Intelligence
As for animations/ artificial intelligence, it will be far more brief than section 1. In terms of animations (yeah I'm nit picking ,I'm sorry), there are some things that will need more improvement.
The animations for the weapons need a lot of improvement to start off. The animations for assault rifle and chinese assault rifle were quite mediocre looking. The firing animation was just the gun moving front and back, front and back, which looked nothing like a real assault rifle. An excellent example of firing animations would be figure 1.9.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBXUlnuVo_s&feature=related
Please do make the animations for each weapon look like they were fired from the hands of an inexperienced shooter. I'm sure the lone wanderer didn't figure out how to shoot a minigun from the hip the moment he picked it up. There's a channel with tons of videos of self made animations which are incredible, and would fit the bill for http://www.youtube.com/user/sk84ever2142
Now to get into the main issue with both the animations and the A.I. The thing with the walking and running animations is that they don't appear to be natural. It looks weird when the lone wanderer runs around, as well as the other ncps. The same thing goes for jumping, it looks like A good example of walking animations would be from GTA IV, see figure 2.0.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98_uTaHDzU4
Note how the character walks and runs, it looks much more like a human being. Another thing is when the player runs into a surface. In GTA IV, the player reacts when he runs into a wall. In Fallout 3 you can run against a wall inside or building or a fence and you aren't even phased. In fact, you continue to run, and run, and run, which looks quite silly. Another thing is, is if you run into someone, say Lucas Sims, Lucas Sims doesn't react as if some ran into him. Instead, he stands perfectly still and somehow is moved without moving his legs. There should be an animation of someone reacting from being bumped into, or tackled down, along with them saying things such as, "watch where you're going", and sometimes even have them become aggressive.
As for A.I, jeez, I don't really know, I'm sure you're working on ironing out some bugs from the original Fallout 3. Real pleased to see you're fixing the companions A.I too.
Other than that, please do make some kick ass animations, this is 2010. On to section 3!
Section 3: Gameplay
As for gameplay, this section too will be brief. I will only cover some small snippets of things I'd like into the game.
As for gameplay, it's near perfect in Fallout 3, with a lot of replay value, and you know what they say, if it ain't broken, don't fix it. But there are somethings that you can tweak and add to.
The first thing I'd like to have in Fallout: New Vegas would be EXTREMELY BIG ASS environments to explore. One of the greatest deeds you can do for this game is have a vast, open Nevada desert, like it did in the teaser, with tiny bits of settlements every which way, long, long highways, and a huge luscious Las Vegas city environment. Exploring open environments and finding new places will be one of the things that will have me playing this game for a long time. With that, keep in mind, you MUST get rid of fast travel, on both hardcoe and regular Fallout: New Vegas. Instead of fast travel, have the addition of vehicles. Please, for the love of god have vehicles, and make sure if you crash the vehicles at a high speed you go flying out of the vehicles windshield. Some examples of excellent vehicles would be:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nq8Fn55axd4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIbGutnbd2k
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3N-YOLjZg-8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rE0VeHZKpIo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ltqh-DYIx4o
APC's, motorcycles, etc, be sure to add a lot of vehicles, along with the ability to let your companies drive/operate the mounted weapons on your vehicle. Along with that, give the player the ability to store his or her items inside the vehicles, if there is a place for storage.
Speaking of storage, be sure to have a lot more places where you can have player owned homes, along with the ability to set up camp and sentry guns at night in order to get some rest (hardcoe mode).
Speaking of hardcoe mode, be sure to make it almost identical to real life, being that you have to eat, drink, sleep, stay hygienic, and treat all wounds instead of just jacking yourself up on stimpaks. Along with that, have conditions like disease in hardcoe mode instead of just "adv rad poisoning", have leukemia, cancer, tumors, salmonella from eating uncooked meat, rabies, and etc, and be sure to have the symptoms that come with it, along with making it very expensive to treat.
As for the story line, be sure to have a much, much, much longer main story, along with there being a lot more side quests and odd jobs for the lone wanderer to do. Also make sure there are a lot more puzzle solving, and thinking going into these quests as well, instead of the typical, go here, shoot the place up, come back.
In terms of the controls, and other gameplay mechanics, please, please, please have aimable iron sights added to the game. http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6938 It would be much better than simply zooming in with the FOV. This same thing goes for sniper rifles, don't use a scope .nif file, do something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R51keUfF7Wk And make sure you have to move your sniper rifle scope up or down a bit in order to fire at enemies at long distances. And please, for the love of god, let us zoom in and out with sniper rifle scopes. The same thing goes for holographic sights, or any other sights, make it so that you have to adjust them a bit to hit enemies at longer distances.
Another thing would be to have items that are in really bad condition- to look like items that are in really bad condition. Item's in perfect condition should look like the items in Operation Anchorage, like the silenced 10mm pistol, or the Chinese Assault Rifle, nice and clean looking, and in perfect condition. If they are in absolutely poor condition, they are rusty, and tend to jam a lot more (in regular and hardcoe). Along with that, cheap/ poor condition guns should overheat, but only in hardcoe mode.
And probably one of the nicest things to add to this game would be weather and dynamic lighting where buildings and such will have different shadows around each time of day. Different types of weather effects would be sand storms, sunny days, cloudy days, and on rare occasions, rainy days. Along with that, be sure to have temperatures in hardcoe mode, where it is hot during the day, and very cold during the night, which means you must dress appropriately or risk becoming harmed.
And finally, the last thing would be to have some first person effects for the items you are wearing. For example, if you are wearing a gas mask, your 1st person view should look like as if you had a gas mask on, but please don't make it too hard to see through. The same thing goes for power armor, but have breathing effects, along with more cooler things, such as night vision, and thermal vision.
That's pretty much all I can think of for gameplay. On to the next section!
Section 4: Items and NCP's
All I can say for this section, is please, please, please, add a ton more fire arms, and a ton more power armor than you did for Fallout 3.
Some suggestions for guns: (Don't worry, they're totally lore friendly, most of these guns center around pre/post Vietnam war weaponry, which this game seems to circle around)

Now I don't expect Bethesda Softworks to do all of them, just consider them. Thanks!
As for NCP's do whatever, just please, have more disgusting fu-ked up looking creatures like centaurs, boat flies, etc. Pick something that looks like it came right out of Dead Space.
And that's all about it. I hope you check this thread out Bethesda Softworks, it would really make my day. Thanks
