Second time's a charm?

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 2:01 pm

The first time I played Honest Hearts, I thought it was just okay, a little underwhelming. But I've been playing HH again on another character, and I have fallen completely in love with it this time round. I mean, the shortness of the main quest is still a problem, but I'm really digging the feel of Zion and the .45 guns. And Follows-Chalk did not annoy me this time, I actually found myself liking him.

Has anyone else experienced this? Where you hated or didn't like some part of the game before, but subsequently fell in love with it?

Yes, but in my case it was Dead Money. In my first playthrought of it, I was constantly lost and got frustrated, but in playthrough number 2 I was familiar with the villa/Sierra Madre and now it is my favourite DLC.

Yes, I liked HH from my 2nd playthrough onwards a lot more. I played it slowly and took time to explore caves, surroundings, tribal life, etc...Its quests are not very interesting, at least 2nd half of them, but I like it.

I liked HH from the start! Alone the story about "the Father in the caves" is very intriguing. The setting is so lush and beautiful, compared to the Mojave, I mean how can you not like it! I also love Graham and Follows Chalk, awesome characters.

The first time I played it, I killed Follows Chalk, grabbed the map, and left. The second time I actually played it the way its supposed to and I liked it.

Of course, I expect nothing less from the Enclave. Shoot first and don't ask any questions later! LOL =p

I liked OWB the second time I tried it. The bullet sponge enemies didn't bother me as much the second time. Mostly because I already knew they were going to take a hundred shots to kill. So I was able to stock up on ammo properly.

^^This^^

But completely the opposite. Only time I can get myself to even start OWB is with an energy weapons specialist and even then I will often avoid it.

No, it's not bad. Most of the enemies in OWB have a high DT threshold and therefore it takes a lot of bullets to bring them down. It's a pretty cool DLC and has some great player housing.

Same here, I enjoyed Dead Money a lot more second time around. Though my favourite DLC is still Lonesome Road.

As regards things that I prefer second time around, I'd have to say.... the entire game! During the first play through I didn't appreciate the backstory, characters, or anything really. But once I found a way in, during my second character, everything clicked and I loved it from then on.

Am now on character number four :)

I gave up trying to do OWB with my guns crit character. The second time I played OWB I went in with my EW gal thinking I could wtfpwn every roboscorpion in one or two plasma shots. Boy was I wrong! I quit my EW courier and went back to my guns guy knowing that I was going to have to waste a ton of bullets to kill these guys. It was more fun knowing that nothing was wrong with me. If only I knew lol.

I know what you mean. I didn't like Old World Blues at first. But as soon as I started drifting away from the main storyline and started to learn about the pre-war tech and the deeper story in the rest of the add-ons and in New Vegas I began to like it more.

For me LR on 1st playthrough was mediocre, I'm currently doing 2nd one, but haven't started LR yet, I've got a lot to do before I travel to Divide, I know I rushed too fast when I was playing for the 1st time, so this time I'm playing it slowly and I think overall impression will be better.

I loved OWB from the beginning. By far my favorite DLC. HH was my least favorite, although I've only played it once.

Honest Hearts was like Firefly, once it really started to get good, it was over.

Nah, first time was best for me, 2nd time I knew what was coming so I tried to drag it out for as long as possible because of how short it was.
When I have to force myself to drag out the gameplay then something isn't right.
