New to the GECK

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 9:15 pm

hey guys,

I've recently starting using the GECK and I'm going through the tutorial on how to create the first vault. The thing is, in the pictures not all things are labeled and I cannot find a video pertaining to the creating of the vault.

My question: Because certain things aren't labeled, are they put their automatically? Do I need to put every wall into the galley area or will the walls appear automatically?

That really depends on HOW you build the cell. If you copy an already clutttered cell, the cell will contain all the statics from the copied cell. If you are starting from a blank cell, you need to drag item from your object window into the cell window-meaning you have to hand place the objects your self. Most of the Static models for vaults will be located in your Object/static/dungeons/vault-folder/collection. I hope this has helped-Peace!

it did help, thanks.

One other question. On the "My First Vault" page, I cannot find how to put objects into containers. How do I do that?

Containers use leveled lists, If you want to add items to a container you'll need to place a container, double click on it and, change it's ID. (If you don't change it's ID the items you add will be added to every container of it's type in game.) ((Also it is a good practice to try to give a Unique, Mod specific name to your newly created forms. If you simply name it something like "MyContainer" the chances are that others will use the same name and you'll have mod conflicts.))

After you've created your custom container go to the edit button and, you see a list of the items and, leveled lists the container uses. You can add, remove items, leveled lists here.

Hope this helps

all very helpfull guys, thank you.

Last few questions.

When placing an object in an NPC's inventory is it the same as a container?

and I'm trying to add a vertibird that will fly over my new house and an enclave base I'm currently making, is there a way to make the ones in the static list move?

For NPC's, yes there the same as containers so, if you want to use a Generic NPC you'll have to create a new form but, if say, you want to add something to a npc like Ralph you can just add it to him because he is only used once.

I don't know about the vertibird, I would see if you can find how the DEV's did the Kimble assassination attempt at Hover Dam, That is the only place I know where you see Vertibirds flying In FNV. If you have FO3 installed look at some of the enclave encounter the resources may have made it into FNV. At best it could give you an idea of how it was done.

I changed some of the baseID's but the loot from one is the same in the other.

i.e. EnclaveLocker1 - enclave power armor

Enclaveofficerlocker - enclavepower armor

Am I not changing the right thing?

so I am trying to make an enclave base. I am working at putting in enclave soldiers, but they don't wear the armor I give them even if it isn't marked as power armor... why?

Set the view so all you see is the navmesh. Look for a triangle overlapping another, usually. The bottom of this page tells you how to find the problem triangle(s) http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/gamesas_Tutorial_Navmesh
