What's the deal with the Marukhati?

The name of the TESO Lore Guild makes me think of the original Marukhati Selectives. Specifically, what was the deal with them? I know they are high-ranked priests of the Alessian Order (possibly selected by the prophet Marukh himself, as the name suggests) who caused the Dragon Break. They say they caused the Dragon Break to seperate Auri-El from Akatosh, but I doubt that, because they were faithful members of a monotheistic religion, and I doubt they'd care about Akatosh when they prefer worshipping the ineffable Godhead. I suspect there is something more than that. Also, the Skeleton Man Interviews contain an interview with Xal, a Marukhati who seems to know all about Tiber Septim, Numidium and the Enantiomorph (To such degrees that he is the only dude who appears to know how the Dwemer dissappeared, because nobody else mentions them sacrificing their souls), and strangely enough he seemed to agree with the use of Numidium to transcend Aurbis, despite the Marukhati being a human organisation and trascending Aurbis being an Elven goal. This suggests that the Marukhati Selectives are still around to this day (or at least the fourth era) and that this organisation knows plenty of the deepest secrets of the setting. So in short, what's the deal with the Marukhati?
