LightingGlow Issue

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 9:39 am

Not sure where to ask, so I will here.

Been having an issue with graphics, and I'm not sure what could be the problem.

Light beams seem to give strings of white dots, and "dust" or "glow" type effects give 4 x 6 grids of dots. Also, trees in the distance seem to have the grid of dots around them. With tree fade down, you can see them up close.

When you use spells, the "glow" that circles you is a buncha dots too.

It's really breaking immersion and I was wondering if anyone had a solution, or if anyone knows where I could go to try and find one. I think I updated my drivers a day ago (not sure, was confusing) but the issue still exists. Problem is the same on both low and high settings.

This is with basic Oblivion and SI, with up to date patch, and nothing else. Run on a system with 2 HD 5770 cards. So confusing, seeing as I didn't have this issue on my other computer (which had one 5770). :(

Thanks in advance!

I've never seen that before, but my first thought would be broken shaders.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20348 for the correct shaders. Try installing those and see if that helps.

What settings do you have the game set on ?? -- The game autodetects the 5770 as an old Nvidia FX57xx series card and defaults to ULTRA LOW due to problems with the shader implementation on thos old cards so you need to go back and use the presets to select Ultra High instead to reenable the shaders and get the card working properly (I have to do this each time I update drivers or anything that causes the game to use the auto detect)

Doesn't change anything. :(

Once I figure out this screen-recording thing i'll make a short movie so you can totally understand what the problem is.

Yes, it auto-set it to "low", but this persists when i change everything back up, including textures to high, all shadows, all view distances to the fullest, etc. Unless there's a graphic option I'm missing lol.

Here's a quick 2 min vid I took that perfectly shows the problem.

http://www.xfire.com/video/464034/

I'll edit it into my first post too. First I show the issue with lightbeams inside places, then i show the dots around the mountains on the horizon (very hard to see in this vid :( ), then I show the dots around the trees. When you have the tree fade at the max, they're still there, but they're only around trees way off in the distance. Then i show the dots in the glow of spell effects. I didn't get to show the dots in "dust" things, floating around by themselves, but it's pretty annoying too. xD

Just as a test -- try downloading this copy of the Launcher.exe (http://www.4shared.com/file/0DM-Kr8s/OblivionLauncher.html ) and use it to launch the game -- at the screen that has the presets to choose the setting select Ultra-High and then start the game and see if it goes away ! -- I'm not sure if the preset also changes some other .ini setting that is not found in the in game options dealing with the borked Nvidia FX57xx shader implementation that the auto detect uses on the ATI 57xx cards but it might be the problem -- I know using the Ultra High preset fixes things for me so worth a try.

Nope, it results in the same issue. :(
