Niftools Installation

Post » Tue Nov 24, 2009 2:35 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to install the new niftools blender scripts on Blender 2.53a.

I've followed the tutorial located http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/Blender/Install_from_svn and I've used git to clone myself the main branch version of pyfii (for Python 3.1) and the most recent version of the blender scripts (apparently for blender 2.5+). Pyfii installed fine, but I can't get the blender scripts to install. The install.bat file fails, and it seems to be related to the lack of a "blender/.blender/scripts" folder in my blender directory. I'm on a Windows 7 computer, and I can't even -create- a folder that has a period in its name.

All of the installation tutorials appear to be outdated, and to have been created for earlier versions of both the scripts, python, and blender.

Does anyone have some time to walk me through this?

Thanks!

UPDATE:

Ok, well its still not working, but I've figured out some of the problems.

Apparently, on some of the older versions of windows, the scripts folder was found in a folder called ".blender' inside the blender directory. In Windows 7, it's located inside a folder named after the version of blender (in my case "2.53").

The bat file thats stored in the blender scripts folder is outdated, and also looks like its been modified by someone for their own use, because it doesn't install all of the necessary scripts, some of the lines that should be copying the utility modules are commented out. After modifying it to point to the right directory, and removing the comments on those extra lines, it looks like it's installed correctly.

So I've got the scripts installed, but apparently blender can't find pyffi, which is kind of irritating as pyffi is currently installed and working in my Python31 installation (I've got a lot of versions of python installed) so I just have to figure out which version of python blender is pointing too and get the correct pyffi for that.

Heres hoping...

So it turns out that the niftools support for Blender 2.5 and for Python 3.1 are not finished and don't really work very well.

They likely won't until 2.5 exits Beta.

I have been wasting my time.

Excellent.
