I just noticed in the past couple days that a subtitle with the character "?" randomly shows up while i'm traveling.. any idea what could be the cause of this, and how to get rid of it?

I never heard of this issue before. If you run with mods I'm certain that one of them is causing the issue.

Yes I am running mods and I noticed it around the time I installed unique landscapes, though I dont see how that could cause this...

No real ideal on this one, but...

I take it you run an English version of Oblivion? Is it possible that you have somehow gotten hold of a mod that at some stage of development was written for another language? The author or translator overlooked something when converting it to English? I mention this because I know there have been "foreign language" versions of at least some Unique Landscapes. You might have mistakenly installed one of those?

From experience its most likely you installed a mod that is not in english. LOL very annoying I know...best bet is to uninstall the mod if you can and try to find the proper version if one exists.

I think I may know what your problem is because I had it before. I'm guessing you installed a mod that hides loading messages? That's what caused it for me anyway IIRC.

I knew it was something I had loaded recently but I would have never guessed it was the "No more annoying messages" mod. Thank you very much for linking the fixed version, that is super helpful. =)


EDIT: Dang.. that one is actually not the same as the version I'm using, I use "No more annoying messages lite" which only takes out the "now loading" messages but doesnt touch the rest..:

It would appear that one does not have a fix, though I messaged the guy who fixed the original version, likely he wont see it for a while it says he was last active almost a year ago..

In other news I find it completely hilarious that it is the "No more annoying messages - Lite" mod that adds a very "light" annoying message that pops up constantly in the game.. oh the irony. lol

My thoughts exactly when I discovered the culprit lol
