Did we basically get a second glimpse of Zenithar? *Spoilers

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 1:46 pm

In Morrowind, we run into a Redguard by the name of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Jon_Hawker. When you help him out, he gies you a reward and you find out http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Zenithar#Zenithar.

In Skyrim, we get challenged by http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Tsun and in return of defeating him in a dual, he lets you in the Hall of Valor.

I thought Tsun was a interesting fellow, so I looked him up in the Gods section over at the UESP wiki, and it mentions:

Tsun, Nordic God of Trials against Adversity

Extinct Nordic god of trials against adversity. Died defending Shor from foreign gods. The etymology of the name and the divine sphere hints at Tsun possibly being an older Nordic version of Zenithar (a god purportedly "that will always win"); compare especially to Z'en (Bosmeri), Xen (Altmeri) and Zeht (Yokudan). The example of Stuhn entering the Imperial pantheon as Stendarr should be considered too.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Tsun#Tsun

Now, I know this is another case of who is who, like Alduin=Akatosh, Alduin is not Akatosh, etc.

Thoughts?

Tsun is the Nordic face of the spirit that other cultures see as Zenithar, Ze'n, Zeht, etc.

All of the gods seem more or less schizophrenic.

Schizophrenia =/= multiple personality disorder.

People REALLY need to stop calling the gods schizophrenic when they have no understanding of the word or what it means.

Got an uncle is actually schizophrenic, along with a dose of bi-polar disorder. Stop misusing it, the TES gods suffer MPD.

It's funny, I didn't quite feel right about using the word, since I was just regurgitating what I've read on the boards before, and I was actually planning to edit my post after looking up the proper definition before ya'll beat me to it. Sorry for the mix up.

But anyway, it is rather interesting to note that gods appear to be able to incarnate in one another's realms. I had never really considered the Aedra incarnating inside of one another's realms. I also wonder if the souls of the dead have mythopoeic power over the gods even in the afterlife, and that's why Xen manifested as Tsun.

The word Zen, in Japanese Buddhism is derived from Ts'un and Ch'un from Chinese pronunication.

So, makes sense the devs chose for Tsun to be the Nordic Zen(ithar)

There's another thread floating around here where the subject of discussion is the relationship between the Aedra and the totemic animals in skyrim; (who's the whale, bear, fox, moth, etc) If we're talking about Tsun/Zenithar, and him being dead, I want to know whether he's guarding his own remains, there. Is -he- the whalebone bridge?

I'm not really picking on the OP. My question is with the information from UESP: "The etymology of the name and the divine sphere hints at Tsun possibly being an older Nordic version of Zenithar (a god purportedly "that will always win"); compare especially to Z'en (Bosmeri), Xen (Altmeri) and Zeht (Yokudan)." Forgive my ignorance, but why is Tsun considered Zenithar, other than because UESP hints at it? Can someone please explain it to me?

No worries, this is what the thread is for: Figuring out this identity crisis :hubbahubba:

Anyway, there are a couple places that say Tsun is the Nordic aspect of Zenithar (The Imperial Library said it, but can't find it atm. Will continue to look).

Just like how Alduin=Nordic Akatosh, Orkey=Nordic Arkay, Struhn=Nordic Stendaar, Ysmir=Nordic Talos, Shor=Nordic Lorkhan.

Each culture has a different view, if not, name of each god we are used to.

Lorkhan for example:

Shor
Shezzar
Sheor
Sep

Thanks. I found those other ones you mentioned. I just can't find one for Tsun = Zenithar. I'll keep looking as well.
