OBSE and $^&#*!^_!#& patches.

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 10:34 am

[of all DLC, currently only has ShivIsles installed. If uninstalling ShivIsles and snapping the damned disk would solve my problems, please tell me cos i couldnt care less about that rubbish being installed anyway]

1. trying to install OBSE,
2. for some reason, they just had to update it to requrie .416 which is mind-numbingly stupid.
3. trying to install .416 ShivIsles patch like it says, and oh noes: the classic Old File error. At this stage i would just like to say that whoever put this together is obviously... [deep breaths]. Why not release a patch that could overwrite the beta, or SOLVE THIS PROBLEM? Im no program writer, but im sure that are atleast half a million people who could have done a better job of putting something together that works. Since so many nubs and angry people cant get around this problem, why the derping n'wah wouldnt someone make something that fixes this? it defy's logic. Its just like Notch and Minecraft; why release and update that screws things up? How mentally handicapped can you be to not test things before releasing them? Now ive gotten that off my chest:
4. It doesnt work. Ok, google ahoy. Answers are so inconsistent it too defys logic. The common trend seems to point towards uninstalling everything (WHY IS SOMETHING RELEASED THAT REQUIRES SOMETHING SO DRASTIC?), and reinstalling in some magic order. Sacrificing a goat and smearing the blood allover the CD's seems to add success rates to this stage. But seriously: half the reply's the 'solutions' seem to be that it doesnt work for people. So why waste 30-60 mins reinstalling bloody everything? I really cant be bothered going through 50+ mods again.

5. MAKE ANGRY POST ON FORUM

Seriously i dont want to have to reinstall everything if it can be avoided. Some genious has to have figured something out to get around this stupid stupid problem.

I make no appologies for my tone, im death red furious. Ive read that pirated versions seem to get around this problem, but id rather not have to resort to things like that, especially since i have paid for the full game already. Just ignore the chaff and see if you have any tips for dealing with this problem im facing. Cheers ;)

Also: the sticky was useless.

Edit: this all started trying to run the mod Scorns Vampirism. If someone has a previous version of OBSE that works for .228 AND this mod, i would gladly have your babies and tattoo a picture of your face on my back.

1. If you have the GOTY edition,
Use the installshield on disc one to uninstall Oblivion. Reinstall disc one and disc two of the GOTY version. Oblivion will then be patched to version 1.2.0416.
2. If you just have one install disc and the SI disc<--- the disc without Knights of the Nine,
Use the installshield on the Oblivion disc to uninstall the game, reinstall Oblivion, then reinstall the Shivering Isles content, then install the Official patch for Shivering Isles. This will bring your version of Oblivion to 1.2.0416.
Once you have the game with 1.2.0416 version you should be able to use OBSE version 20 with no issues.
The installshield on the game is very sloppy and only removes the vanilla game content from your system, it leaves all of your mods intact, all of your saved games intact, and does not remove your Oblivion file with your tweaked settings to allow screen shots and disable the borders either.

Mkay so i uninstalled and reinstalled ONLY normal Oblivion. No Shivering Isles content.

Ran the .416 updater and still get the same damned Old File message. This is just beyond stupid

:brokencomputer: :brokencomputer: :brokencomputer: :brokencomputer: :brokencomputer:

Edit: and yes it was the normal Oblivion updater, not the Shiv isles one. And correct language, etc.

Wow and now i cant get my save games to work. Oblivion is the most useless and fragile game ever. Ive had Morrowind for 10 years and never ever had any problems getting it to work exactly the way i wanted. When so many people cant get something simple like a patch to work, you know its time to fire everyone, cure the consolitis and start again.

If you have just Oblivion, You need the 1.20416 patch for Oblivion.
If you have Oblivion and Shivering Isles, You need the 1.20416 patch for SI.
If you installed the Official patch to Oblivion, you may run into issues installing Shivering Isles because of how the patches work.
I had the problem when I wanted to add mods to my Oblivion install, I had a 2006 Oblivion Disc, the Shivering Isles Disc, and a third disc with all of the DLC except Battlehorn. I had to use the Official Shivering Isles patch to bring my game to 1.20416.
