oblivion is my go to game, when i'm feeling stressedangry.

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 6:02 am

i'll admit right off the bat, that i suffer with anger issues (not physical/but i resort to throwing tantrums/swearing e.t.c i'm not proud of this :blush2: nearly every game i play,at some stage i just suffer with turette's (?).for some reason though i find oblivion a calming influence on me.weather it's just wandering around cyrodiil, listening to the game music e.t.c.it is one of the few games i have played (recently) that i have barely got angry playing.i'm sure that i'm not the only one that finds the game a calming influence.do you go to play the game,if you're feeling stressed/angry,and also are there any other games that you might recommend (i have a 360 and my 11 year old pc kindly given to me by my friend

I feel the same way. In my case, I don't like to be told what to do. I get told what to do enough in real life, I don't need a game telling me what to do also. So loading up Oblivion and traveling through Cyrodiil is very theraqeutic for me. For a few hours I can live in a world where my character and I make our own decisions, go where we want, do what we want to do when we want to do it. Or do nothing. Sometimes we just sit on the end of a pier in Anvil harbor and stare at the water and the sunset for hours.

After about twenty minutes in the game I usually find that I'm more relaxed, more at peace with the world. I feel better able to return to my real life and to deal with my real life problems rationally.

Dito. One of the many reasons I still play this game. It seems I can never get calm enough ;)

Guess I'm the opposite. I can't really play any game if I'm stressed or angry. I gotta deal with whatever's making me upset first. I do like playing if I'm depressed, though. The escapism factor is great.

That's a great OP btw, welcome to the forums raceface90.

REally? What about if you get surprise-attacked by a troll?? I get some serious goosebumps, elevated heart rate, etc.! What about if an Oblivion gate opens up? Huh? What then?

:) I'm just messin' with ya. I know what you mean: you get calmed by Oblivion's placid scenery and whatnot.

Yea, I realized that once I saw you had posted in some other topics here. My bad. Well, WELCOME anyways. :)

(but there is no way i'm going to play dark souls though :banghead: :swear:

Yea I've heard Dark Souls is way intense. YOu almost are guaranteed to die or something, over and over again. Not my cup of tea.

I was an avid Tomb Raider gamer before discovering Oblivion. Looking back, Tomb Raider really is a stress-machine, in the sense that at several points of any game, I'd be way too stressed and not really enjoying the game at all. Maybe tha'ts why I haven't picked up any newer TR games since Legend.

Honestly, Oblivion is the game I have only played over 5 Playthroughs, Its just truly an amazing game, I hate how much hate it gets from Elitists, Its a game where I can sit down, relax, even playing on my own or with my mates, its still very relaxing, I also love reading about TES Fan fiction, Namely Buffys Journal :hubbahubba:

As well as the "Where are you now" Threads, very nice people there.

Same here! I can still remember playing the very earliest ones on PC. My ten-year old self begged my dad to go on the internet at work and print off some walkthroughs when I got stuck. He did as well. What an amazing time. :lmao: I can't play them anymore though. I got Legend for my xbox and I never got past the first level. Lost its charm for sure.

Oblivion relaxes me as well. I can get quite tense playing some games but Oblivion is definitely a chill-out game. Unless I have to close a gate or something. :obliviongate:

I don't really get very angry I think.

But Oblivion is my primary "go to" game when stressed. I feel it's very relaxing to wander the wilderness collecting ingredients, or clearing out some goblin cave.

There are other games to, but Oblivion is really the primary go-to game for stress.

As much crap as I give it at times, I must admit that Oblivion has never stopped being fun for me.

One of my great joys is drop to third-person and watch my avatar traverse the many roads and trails of Cyrodiil. The play of light and shadow on his backplate. The gentle sway of his mount's posterior. Its swishing tail. The steady clip-clop of hooves on pavement. Wind rustling. Birds chirping. Breathtaking scenery. What more could a fellow ask for? Very soothing. Almost hypnotic.

(The above is obviously written with a sunny day in mind. Night travel is equally appealing, especially on a crystal clear night. Here I am admittedly aided by a number of mods installed specifically to improve nighttime adventuring: darker night skies, a nebula, shooting stars, window lights, etc.)

No screenshot can adequately capture this feeling of serenity. http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn303/Decrepit_Waste/ESIV%20Oblivion/HorseTravelSkin1.jpg, taken for an entirely different purpose, gives only a vague hint of what makes land travel in third-person on horseback so mesmerizing. It shows, by the way, my decrepit avatar, Wolfgang and Groucho on the Gold very near Skingrad. Vilja was at rear just out of frame. They were almost certainly on one of their near-constant road patrols, likely to Anvil.

It displays his Encumbrance. It's added by a great mod that adds new bars to your HUD that can display just about any stat you want.

I know exactly what you mean, The Elder Scrolls games are incredibly relaxing. The music, atmosphere and scenery always calms me down.

Even when playing Morrowind, I get the same feeling, but it's often interrupted by cliff racers trying to ruin my day :sadvaultboy:

A pair of rings that combine to 360 feet of detect life range (no surprises). A beautiful black mare that can run down M'aiq or any Black Horse Courier and, more importantly, escape from any foe. Beautiful weather. Open road ahead. A touch of excitement here and there when assisting a Legion rider under attack. Picking the occasional nightshade from horseback. Stopping at any of the ten waterfalls on our map. Great in game music. A destination that is far away.

Yep. Doesn't get much better than that. :twirl:

Wow, i still get goosebumps if my char. gets surprise-attacked. Trolls are the worst because they're so damn quick. Dyan got attacked by like 3 of them the other day, in an area which we had previously never seen trolls. Her KotN companion got quickly killed by the ambush, and Dyan would have also perished had I not had like a dozen health potions on-tap. It freaked me out so bad.

Granted, I used to get freaked out by simple sound effects back when I was new to the game! Like that one that sounds like a branch bending in the wind. Dude I used to get so many goosebumps back in 2008. :cold:

Legend was awesome because Lara could do all these cool new moves, and it had plenty of old-fashioned tomb raiding, too. Damn, Now i'm wanting to get back into this game now that we're talking about it. But then, I get all obsessed with having to collect all the tokens and whatnot, needing to look for spoilers on tombraiders.net, etc.

Trolls can be quite bad, especially to a young character. Lothran did have some problems with them before and neither of us like surprise attacks. And don′t get me wrong. After all this time, this game can still give me the bumps. But in a whole other way ^_^

When i read the topic title i thought that OP would be describing some mass murder bloodshed massacre of entire cities in Oblivion when he was angry.
Thats what i do though :celebration: get some shock damage bow and arrows, and watch the npcs fly!

As long as my character can go invisible, this is something I find relaxing, actually, creating mayhem. I'll be LoL'ing the entire time, though; better entertainment than anything else on TV!
