buying previous TES games after playing Skyrim= bad idea?

reverse order would be the best bet, oblvivion is ls still a decent looking and playing game, morrowind is...difficult to get into, mods make it pretty, but its combat is horrible. Arena and daggerfall are a pain in the ass to get running, daggerfall is sorta fun...arena from what i've seen is barely a tes game,

eh, I really don't see how morrowind combat is 'horrible' - it's certainly not much different from oblivion or skyrim's combat. the only real difference is that you don't have much chance of hitting something with low skill - as it should be - old school. it's a different skill mechanic - not a different combat mechanic. the animations are virtually identical in all three games with the exception of skyrim's fallout like cutscene finishing moves.

if you do decide to play morrowind - and you'll need a pc to do so as it's not reverse compatible with xbox 360 and there is no ps3 version - feel free to pm me - I'll give you my vent info and be more than happy to detail the mechanics to help you avoid start up frustration.

Why "should" it be that way? I'm pretty sure if I pick up a mace (I've never held a mace before) then I could hit something standing still in front of me on more than 5% of my attempts. I'd actually be surprised at anything less than 100% of my attempts.

as I said - it's "old school" - every rpg - really, most games - came from wizards of the coast dungeons and dragons game(s) and rule set. that meant on every attack you had an "attack roll" and a "defense/save roll" - that's how old school games calculated whether or not you hit something. It was a combination of a random generated number multiplied by your percent chance to hit. This is/was further modified by enemy level and their "save throw" or chance to avoid your hit. You say "how can I not hit something in front of me" to which I reply: "if you are swinging a mace at me why can't I jump out of the way?"

- get it now?

or do you just prefer you win all the time easy? Yes, I understand. It's the modern "I deserve to win without any work" mentality prevalent in america today. sad... very sad.

Morrowind's graphics can be improved dramatically through a couple of mods and a little know-how.

hahahah, the problem was morrowind was first person, you saw the weapon hit the target...and nothing, no dodge animation played, no screwed up attack animation. Look at the combat in kotor or some game like that, if you miss because of the "dice roll" you visually see the miss. That is the only way for that sysyem to make any real sense...for me at least.

Nothing wrong with "dice roll" combat, it just doesn't work in first person.

Also whats with the elitist tone? playing video games has very little to do with wanting an "i win" button or anyone's work ethic
