Dragons only die when their soul is absorbed. As in die without possibility of resurrection, because you did not absorb his soul their is a posibility of resurrection and that's why I say he's not dead. It kinda depends on how you view "death" here.

Question then: Why didn't we absorb his soul? Yes, he is the first Son of Akatosh, but all dragons are Akatosh's children. Even if his duty/destiny is greater than all other dragons, why were we not able to absorb his soul? Did Akatosh intervene?

Most likely, at least in my opinion. It seems that Aka is saving him until the kalpa is actually done.

Alduin will eat everything in his way, unless it dodges his mouth. What happened in Skyrim and when he was originally fought, was that he was caught during his weakest moments.

Also, Paradise was destroyed when Mankar was killed, Azura's Star isn't an afterlife, it's a soul stone, and yeah, he'd end up going after the daedric princes, unless they dodged him (like how Mehrunes did before he was Mehrunes Dagon)

Alduin is not Akatosh! It is stated several times that he is the son of Akatosh.

He is a demigod, not a fully fledged god

Glad someone posted that before me. It gets annoying when people refuse to accept something that was decided loooong ago.

Before less than two months ago, there wasn't the slightest indication that Alduin wasn't Akatosh and a good deal that suggested he was. Even now you can not in all fairness say the issue is settled and set in stone.
