Post » Mon May 07, 2012 11:53 pm

hi to everybody ,

ok I came on the forums because im getting pretty desperate now for some help with my pc which is being crappy :L

so one day ( ive never had this problem before) I go onto oblivion, at first nothing is wrong then suddenly- poof- my background noise dies :S- but then it comes back :D- then about 10 seconds later my environment noises ( right?) - like footsteps voices weapon noises and grass etc. etc. dies - so i look on the internet for some help but i don't find any answers HELP!

it getting worse aswell now most of the time i have neither sounds and it sort of ruins the point of the game + i want skyrim to be perfect ^_^

im not a really computer whiz kid sort of person so please don't make the advice something really complicated without telling me where to go :P

much love to the person who can solve this problem

Do you have a real soundcard? Or are you using onboard sound?

Post a dxdiag...

Click on Start, and in the search box, (or, the run option for XP) type in:

dxdiag

and hit enter. It will ask about whql certification, tell it 'no'. once the app finishes, click on Save All Information, and just accept the defaults, it will put dxdiag.txt onto your desktop. Double click on that to open it, and then just copy the whole thing into a post here. Let's see what ya got. :D

On board sound, and on board graphics. That machine isn't going to be able to play skyrim. (at least, I wouldn't bet real heavily on it.....)

Try disabling music in the oblivion.ini located in My Games\Oblivion. Find the setting:

bmusicenabled=1

change the one to a zero, save and exit. It might be you are just asking too much of your processor to keep up with it all.

New does not imply powerful. You have onboard sound, and onboard video. Not discreet cards. The video also only has 64mb of dedicated memory, the rest it is taking from your system RAM. Not ideal for performance either. But, we don't even know what the requirements are going to be for skyrim yet...... and, it's on a new game engine, so, you may be quite right, and skyrim might just run great on your machine. :D

Time will tell.

I am real curious what was causing the sound to be rude. Did it start working right after a reboot or somesuch??

Its a text file. If you don't have your explorer set to show file extensions, it will just say "oblivion", and it will be "configuration settings" type. Or some such.

Look in "My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\" for a file named "oblivion.ini" (or just "oblivion"). Delete that.

I'm concerned that even though this computer is new, it isn't really very well equipped to handle games. The Intel on-board graphics is really not intended for games; most of the more demanding games are designed to run on dedicated graphics cards. Best-case, Oblivion will run poorly on this system. Worst-case is long-term degradation of the system, from heat.

It's possible that your system is set to reduce the graphics quality in order to keep the GPU temperature down, and it's falling below the point where Oblivion will run correctly.

Better video card. You can get 'em that are SIGNIFICANTLY better than what you are using now, for fairly cheap. Need to know what size power supply you have in there, to give a good recommendation though.
