Lathenil had very intense presence, to put it politely, and some of his accusation of Thalmor involvement border on madness. -Praxis Erratuim, Imperial Historian, introduction to Rising Threat vol. 1-4
yes true. however, i dont think that lathenil's proposals should be so easily dismissed. The Thalmor are the real enemy in this game and they have a vast array of influence and intelligence. What do they want? Tamriel. Im just saying i dont believe in coincidences, and not to underestimate the thalmor's methods. In Infernal Cit and Lord of Souls there are a lot of eyebrow raising connections to the Thalmor.
You misunderstand me. When I wrote of the Dunmer being powerful, I didnt mean they were a superforce to reckon with It might have sounded like it but what I meant is that you would be a fool to underestimate them. Do I think that TS would have succeeded if he invaded Morrowind. Of Course. But at the cost of many lives. We do know something about the Dunmer. They are crazy. I was trying to make the point that you would be a fool to underestimate their strengths.
Do I thiink Dunmer could collectively rule Tamriel. I think any culture/race/people has a fair chance under the right circumstances. But generally no, I dont see Dunmer collecively brandishing the crown. I do think many do have the capability to be great rulers and leaders. But every race can say the same.
I respect the Dunmer and their traditions. Kind of like Caius Cosades. that's all. I respect their clan like nature. It has a semitic flavor to it. I respect their virtues.
"Here Lord Vivec met a poor farmer whose guar had died. The farmer could not harvest his muck without his guar, and he could not provide for his family or his village. So the Lord Vivec removed his fine clothes and toiled in the fields like a beast of burden until the crop was harvested. It is at the Fields of Kummu we go to pray for the same humility Lord Vivec showed on that day.
The Fields of Kummu are west of Suran on the north shore of Lake Amaya as you head towards Pelagiad. The shrine is between two rocks, and most easily noticed while traveling east along the road. Alof's farm nearby has a small dock on the north bank of Lake Amaya. This is the only dock nearby which Alof kindly allows servants of the Temple to use. It is customary to leave a portion of muck at the shrine to represent Vivec's humility." -Pilgrim's Path- Vivec.
That's just one example of things i respect about the morality of the Dunmer. Yes, the Temple is now a pile of Ash. Vivec is dead or gone. The Tribunal were frauds. Many Dunmer completely ignore these kinds of morals. But, the fact that it was/is a virtue in their culture shows a certain nobility. A dark nobility but has my respect.
"I love the people of Morrowind. I became a god to make their lives more comfortable and secure. I am most close to my faithful followers; I am literally in their hearts and minds. I feel the most sympathy with House Redoran; they are Dunmer driven by creeds and deeds, like I am. House Indoril is closer to the compassion and sympathy of Almalexia, a comfortable and secure serenity. House Telvanni matches the disposition of my brother Sotha Sil -- iconoclastic, profane, unconventional."
"House Hlaalu represents the future of the Dunmer, integrated into the sophisticated mainstream of the traditionless, raceless, godless culture of the Empire. House Dres represents the past of pre-Tribunal Great House culture, a persistent tradition of Daedra- and ancestor-worshipping civilized Dunmer clans. And I even love the Ashlanders for their preservation of the most ancient barbarian tribal traditions of the Dunmer who first settled Morrowind."- Vivec to the Neravarine.
Im not saying the Dark elves are this virtuoso high people. Demi gods on the face of Nirn. Im just saying under their dark disposition and unwelcoming attitude theres some real worth. Im just saying I like the idea of some Dark elves commanding attention and giving the Thalmor a hard time
Yes I know that the Dark Elves kept slaves for thousands of years. However I posted this thread in irritation. I was iritated at the way many people on the forums felt that the Argonian invasion was a victory for the Argonians. Like "Huzzah yes!finally!"
I feel the real victory was when Helseth abolished slavery, tactfully and peacefully. I feel the Dunmer didnt deserve the carnage the Argonians brought after so much. I feel it was noble for the Nords offering to coexist with their age old enemies on Solstheim. I think it was pathetic for the Hist and the Argonians to invade Morrrowind at that time.
