I think I accidently deleted a file in Oblivion. Game won't

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 3:16 am

I was trying to delete a mod but I think I deleted a major file or something. Whenever I click load, the loading bar moves 1 cm then crashes. Im using the steam version and im wondering if theres anyone I can do a scan to see which files are missing and how to get them. What do I have to do? Thanks.

Edit: I already did the "Verify Integrity of Game Cache", said everything was fine. Please help.

If you right click on oblivion in the steam menu, go to properties, then go to the local files tab hit the "Verify Game Cache" button. It will scan Oblivion for any missing files and redownload them. However I'm not sure how that would work with mods that over-wright vanilla content. For example if you have a graphic mod, i'm not sure if it would delete those files and replace them with the original ones.

I already did verify and I deleted them as in they're gone, because they were all in the newly made mod folder.

Well if Verify Game Cache didn't work then I think you deleted a file that was a part of a mod, as I'm pretty sure that Verify would have redownloaded anything that was part of the original game. Try deselecting everything but the Oblivion.esm in you data files list and see if that loads.
When you say loading bar do you mean the one you see right before you get to the main menu, or a steam loading bar?

If you have Wrye Bash, look at the Mods tab, and see if any of the little checkboxes are red. That indicates a missing master, which will immediately crash your game on startup.

i can think of two options: 1.if a friend or relative etc has the game, ask them to look through their files and tell you what they are, then look at your files find the missing file and get them to send it to you over skype or something 2. Back up save files and re-install, hope i helped :)
