Basically, I can't find any word in Dunmeri related to islands, isles, seas and such. Not even water. Only found ouacithuhn (waterfall) but that doesn't cut it. I'm trying to name some places in a mod in dunmeri, so help would be greatly appreciated.

I know the Dunmer use a lot of Daedric alphabets in their writings. Dunno about their own language though.

Id look for examples in Morrowind.
Tel means tower, Mora means forest. Tel Mora, Sadrith Mora, tower forest, old forest. Bal Molag Mer, Stone Fire Men, Balmora, Stone Forest.

You can just take your own nomenclature that denotes your island and make it unique as you go.

Yep, there's a whole lot on dunmeri language, it's practically an existing language you could technically learn how to speak.


I know those, that's like basics of the basics. Unfortunately, I haven't ran into any such words because there is none mentioned, or I missed it so there's nothing I can use as an example. I'd rather avoid making my own therm since fatter chance is that I missed it rather than it not being mentioned ever (considering Morrowind is practically surrounded by water) hence why I'm asking lore pros.

Since there does not seem to be any actual established nomenclature to denote an island, Id say go for what sounds right.
I used to think for a long time that Morrowind's 'Tel' meant 'Island', but it does not.

I mean, 'Avalon' is thought to mean 'has apple trees'.
If you can make such a mundane meaning of such a beautific name, the sky is the limit.

True I suppose. I was surprised when I found out Tel Mora means tower forest, yeah. (or Morag Tong, guild of super awesome assassins basically means guild of foresters haha). Guess I'll go for the route of making it up.

Haha I know you weren't, I was joking. N'wah means slave, or someone who's not a native, while f'lah means native.

Consider the world "isle", which derives from the same root as "insular".

Point is, if you want to work with established words, you'll have to make to take a measure poetic license. After all, Dunmeri seems to use Mora ("forest") in more than just the literal sense.

Well, I think you can make headway on the names of towns. I think that "ruhn" means either town or city, as is "Ald-ruhn" meaning "old town", and Tamriel Rebuilt's "Rayonruhn" is maybe a town that mines ebony.
