Has the gate to the Shivering Isles ever been closed since i

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 2:44 am

Was traffic still going in and out of it? Could Cyrodiil be a bit more demented and manic now?

Is the gate still open and can people still go back and forth? Do we ever get told if it closed or not? Seems like this could be a pretty big deal. Could Madness Ore and Amber Ore be lore friendly if they were really rare in the leveled lists? (simulating the vast amount of stuff the CoC and others would likely have taken away from the SI).

Discuss.

Good question, but the world will never know. Until Bethesda or MK says otherwise.

I don't think MK had any part in the Shivering Isles or am I wrong? In any case he likely has information in regards to it that we don't anyways. I think since
Spoiler
Sheogorath is walking around in actual form that it must still be open. I have not actually had any contact with him in Skyrim yet though so idk for sure. If it is him at what point does his Daedric-ness force him to go back to the Shivering Isles and stay there?

It's not that he has information that we don't, it's just that BGS hasnt thought about it, and it hasnt been written yet.

And in Skyrim, you go into the Pelagius wing of the Blue Palace, and you teleport to a creepy otherland. Its not the Isles, but its not Mundus either. You'll find that out in the quest, don't wanna spoil it for ya.

The gate could still be open, but I doubt the Empire wants people streaming through there and coming out wrong. Maybe it is just used for trade now, but I don't think Sheo would keep it open if the empire was the only party that was benefitting.

I think he would keep it open so long as he was getting people to come into his realm tbh. I think it would cause a marked rise in manic and demented behavior across the board in Cyrodiil. That is why the empire ad every singe guild collapsed so heavily! Or BGS likes their faction quests to follow the same overall formula....We are in massive amounts of trouble but only you can help us!

i think anyone who enters the isles forfeits thier sanity, and they can't go farther than the gatekeeper and be sane, i'm not for sure if any ore can be found in pass wall or not, but it wouldn't be enough have reserves of it around when skyrim happens.

Not reserves of this ore but like a 1% chance of it being in containers and a 5% chance of it appearing in those high level loot containers in certain lists and a very rare find in a merchants inventory would not be that far fetched if that gate was open for over 200 years. There could also be a place that people started collecting artifacts and items of interest from the Shivering Isles for collection purposes.

Seriously anyone have any evidence of the Shivering Isles Gate being mentioned post grey march. Did it say anywhere that the gate was going to close after awhile? Was it a once in grey march invitation and it is assumed that it closes?

I feel like this is kind of unlikely, but I really, really want it to be true. It would make Cyrodiil a lot more interesting.

Just a fun pet theory I recently made up that not even I believe has any credence. It just feels like anything the "Heroes" of TES touch they leave in ashes come the next game literally in some cases lol. Nerevarine in Morrowind. Causes the Ministry of Truth to fall by nullifying Lorkhans Heart and it destroys a good deal of Morrowind. Mages, Fighters, and Thieves Guild all pretty much go under after the Champion of Cyrodiil takes them over as well. Madness is a great explanation even though we still would be responsible for it in some ways.

I think the Dovahkiin is gonna have the biggest footprint, considering he'll probably become a god just like Talos.

The gate is probably closed. It was opened only for a champion to come in to help Sheo. There would be no reason to keep it open after, also if it was open you'd think it would have had some mention somewhere, it's a rather big and important thing after all.

Sheo seems like the kind of guy who would keep it open anyway, being mad and all.

And not necessarily; it's on a tiny island, they might try to keep it under wraps.
Holy[censored], maybe it's a government conspiracy, to keep the source of the madness epidemic a secret from the general populace. The Thalmor might have taken control of it, and are now trying to gain power from inside the Shivering Isles,

I'm having so much fun with this.

Well it is said that madness befell Elsweyr because the Mane got assassinated. Maybe it was meant literally and we now know the cause... :deal:
