What happened to the KOTN?

Aside from the circumstances of their refounding, they're just another order of knights.

With crusader relics... That gives them a rather big edge I would say.

Edge they will most likely not use.

Alternatively, one of the Knights dons the Relics, goes and kicks some Elven butt, only to be betrayed by the newly rechristened Knights of the Eight. They tear him to pieces and rip his heart out.

I agree the relics should be some kind of advantage. As to the actual fate of the knights however, I have no idea.

No, dying out implies that they were relevant.

We shall take up the Armor again for use against the Thalmor. But his time, we have an artifact that increases the power tenfold. Wuthraad.

Have fun with the Wuuthrad I can't get because I'm glitched! But I'll take my Daedric artifacts instead though.

I like Wuthraad because you just know it craves the taste of baby elves.

Depends who found them i think. Many of the Altmer do not like the Thalmor. Still chuckling inside at the idea of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Areldur taking up the relics and beating the crap out of the Thalmor...
You bet, he has the most chances of being alive after 200 years. I'd love to see that idea implemented as new content somehow, possibly with him having gone mad thanks to the invaluable example and assistance from the previous wielder of the relics, for a better impersonation of Pelinal.
"The commander, the others thought he abandoned us, but he never left, he is always with me. And with his blessing I've wielded the relics all these years, and for him I shall fight, until all the enemies of the Nine lay dead at our feet! Death to the Thalmor! Long live Talos! Cheese for everyone!"

Just thought of this. Wasn't the Divine crusader the only one who could remove the relics from their stand? Maybe they're still there.

Impossible. The reason why the first KotN failed was because they kept using the Relics for their own purposes.
